"No list is complete without the danged Matador! Can't remember who made it..."

It was AMC again, the specialist in ugly cars.

My theory on why so many AMC's end up on ugly lists: AMC was just a renamed version of Nash-Hudson, so they probably still had the designers responsible for those 50's Nash and Hudson atrocities. Then they bought Kaiser-Willys, to get the Jeep. They probably got some old Kaiser designs and designers too. I mean, if the '70 Gremlin isn't a '60 Henry J, then what is it? ")

"Any idea where they're solde and if they're selling?"

No idea. I haven't seen any at the local dealer - but they might be hiding them out back.

AMC Ambassador was another butt-ugly car. The AMC SST/Javelin were probably the only cars designed by AMC with half-way desirable looks.

My friend had the AMC-Renault Alliance Hatchback that Road and Track called "The Son of Pacer." I think the Renault Le Car had an after market rally version in Europe made by Alpine called the R5. They stuck a Renault detuned race engine in the backseat and the thing could beat Ferraris in slalom and sprints.

I don't care for Subaru vehicles. And the 1980's Volvo 760 was harmful to the eyes, uglier in fact than the Volvo 144, and that's hard to do. Volvos did not get their looks until it started using Italian coachbuilders design their vehicles.

I like those embedded nacelles for the warp-drive on that Chrysler!

And that's pretty much the reaction they wanted. Considering the era, the styling is almost demure.

You're right. I'm a <40 engineer who does just enough outdoor stuff to like the idea of doing more, but won't be allowed too.

I see muddy soccer feet having no affect on the interior of the vehicle.

I want a truck, but it's not practical yet-- so I'm looking at the positively goofy Element as a stopgap.

Homely or not the Element is a nice shopping utility vehicle for the money. My wife loves hers.

The 1954 Kaiser Darrin. Apart from the odd "Chrome Slice of Pizza" grille, that's a pretty sharp car. Check out how the doors slide into the fender. Only 435 of these made. Got to drive one some years ago. Not too fast but major buckets of "cool".

...and another last gasp...the '57 Hudson Hollywood...apparently taking Soviet styling cues.

The infiniti version is MUCH cooler.

Totally agree. The critical difference (to me) is the rear roof pillar -- the Infinity's tapers daintily into the body where the Nissan's is thick and heavy looking. The Infinity also has a much nicer "face".
