Beyond the Fog - Pay Attention! (UNITED NATIONS ABUSE OF POWER)

Beyond the Fog - Pay Attention! Geoff Metcalf Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 Hurricane Charley is ravaging the east coast, Iraq remains in turmoil, a presidential campaign roars, and the 2004 Olympics have started in Athens.

Meanwhile, off the radar screen, while concurrently sandbagging and obfuscating over the Oil-for-food scandal, the United Nothing is again attempting to grab for riches beyond their grasp. Story Continues Below

Most bad government excesses are a product of incrementalism. You don’t eat an elephant in one sitting.

The income tax started off in 1913 as a mere 1 percent.

Gun control started small and ‘conditioned’ and desensitized the masses.

Privacy assaults started small and got big.

Homosexual ‘rights’ started as “tolerance,” moved to “acceptance” and threatens to become “mandatory.”

Free Trade started as ‘Fair’ and morphed into the WTO. The U.N. has consistently sought to expand their power, scope and influence. Despite the unavoidable tendency to abuse power under the color of authority by a gaggle of anti-U.S., pampered, hubris infused bureaucrats, these wannabe ‘controllers’ keep returning to the table of excess more times than Godzilla.

The greatest ‘Checks and Balance’ to preventing the U.N. from unbridled global excess is their dependence on the member nations for subsistence. The U.N. thrives and survives largely on the largess of member dues. They don’t like that.

The U.N. has been ‘Jonesing’ for any and all opportunities to ‘grow the cancer.’

The International Criminal Court (ICC). The U.S. took a pass on that one.

The Kyoto Accords (based on junk science and mirrors). We took a pass on that too.

The U.N. MILITARY BUILD UP…No thanks!

And the granddaddy of all globalist erotic dreams…”Global Taxes.” http://www.cfif.org/htdocs/freedomline/current/in_our_opinion/global_taxes.htm While we have been busy itching and moaning about Iraq, and throwing acrimonious partisan excrement, the U.N. has been (AGAIN) “preparing a new study that will outline numerous global tax proposals to be considered by the General Assembly at its September meeting.”

Despite his apparent complicity is the fraud, corruption and abuse of ‘Oil-for-food,’ Kofi Annan is leading the campaign for an inevitable excess that would make the multi-billion-dollar ‘Oil-for-food’ scam look like chump change.

The not so new proposals will pitch a Global tax package which is intent on “redistributing the wealth”…largely OUR wealth. Go figure.

The presumptive ‘World Leaders’ (mostly from impoverished third world rat holes) are wanting (lusting) to tax everything from e-mails and Internet use to a global gas tax and levies on airline travel. Please note that most of those receiving the revenue from these new global taxes don’t contribute ‘Jack.’ In fact, if (God forbid) the U.N. global taxes were to be implemented, American taxpayers could inevitably end up paying HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS of dollars each year to the United Nothing.

Annan has said he "strongly supports finding new sources of funding" for the U.N. through global taxes…big DUH! He made crystal clear his support for the imposition of global taxes in a 2001 Technical Note that he authored. "The need to finance the provision of global public goods in an increasingly globalized world also adds new urgency to the need for innovative new sources of financing," he said.

This isn’t anything new…been there, done that, got the T-shirt! The usual suspects (liberals, academics…but I repeat myself…and poor countries) have long presumed to “redistribute” the wealth of their betters.

When the U.N. approved the “Millennium Declaration” they capriciously committed their members to a grandiose plan to ‘assist developing nations’…not to mention the bloated bureaucracy of the U.N.

Despite the glaring fact that the U.S. provides the bulk of the money for the U.N. to squander, THEY claim developed nations (like the U.S.) just haven’t done ‘enough.’ Boo-hoo! They apparently want us to not only buy the rope with which to hang ourselves, but the bullets to finish the job and the shovels to dig the grave.

The wish list of proposed new global taxes includes: Email Tax, Fossil Fuel tax, Currency transaction tax, International air transport tax, Aviation Fuel tax, and others.

Phase One would result in $1,291,200,000,000. (that’s One TRILLION, 291-BILLION, 200-MILLION flipping dollars). The unintended consequences would be epic.

And that’s not all……They propose taxing conventional arms trade, fines for ocean dumping, commercial fishing tax, satellite tax, electronic spectrum (TV, radio, cell phones…), taxing profits of international business and more, and more, and more….

Regardless of labels and obfuscation the three primary objectives (all of them bad) are:

1. Make policy through taxation.

2. Generate big bucks for the U.N.

3. Redistribute wealth from rich nations to poor nations.

Notwithstanding the Oil-for-food corruption, gifting the dysfunction gaggle of incompetents with more money reminds me of the P.J. O’Rourke quote, “Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys."

Not a good idea.

This is yet one more reason why we must get OUT OF THE UN! Without the United States this sham organization would cease to exist and would cease being a thorn in our side. This organization does us no good and is a hindrance to our sovereignty
