Top Chiron lawyer's home is vandalized (Animal Rights Terrorism in SF Bay Area)
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/16/04 | Henry K. Lee

Orinda police are investigating the vandalism of the East Bay home of Chiron Corp.'s top attorney on Sunday, in which a group of people broke windows and tried to flood his home with water during a noisy protest.

Neighbors said the people were animal-rights protesters wearing black clothing and masks, and carrying signs. The demonstrators converged on the home of Chiron's general counsel William Green on Sunnyside Court in Orinda about 10:15 a.m. while he was away on vacation, neighbors said.

The protesters broke about a dozen windows and turned on his garden hose in his backyard deck, and left after 20 minutes. No arrests were made, but neighbors provided license plate numbers to Orinda police.

"I feel a bit violated by this," Green said Sunday evening, minutes after returning home to survey the damage. "I think it's beyond the pale of what should be permissible in civilized society."

The protest comes six months after Chiron filed a lawsuit against Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty USA. The group's name refers to Huntingdon Life Sciences, a New Jersey company that performs animal testing for clients, including Chiron.

It was not immediately clear Sunday whether the protesters were connected to the Stop Huntingdon group.

Green, 60, has previously been the target of protesters over at least the past two years, with flyers stuck on telephone phones and gravestones placed nearby representing dead animals. Other employees have also been awakened by late-night visits by protesters with megaphones.

Neighbor Jim Abrams, 60, said the Orinda protest began with marching and chanting. But tensions grew when Abrams tried to block the side gate to Green's home, and some protesters charged past him.

Did Good Neighbor Abrams call the police? 20 min. seems ample time for the police to round all of these burglers up and jail them. Or perhaps private property is a meaningless concept in the politics of Northern California?

Domestic terrorists. When they attack lawyers, they are trying to subvert our legal system. They can't win in the court of public opinion, they can't win at the polls, they can't get all of their laws passed by our liberal legislature, so they intimidate people by attacking their houses.

This conflict had better stay below the level of causing serious injury or death to scientists or others involved with the biotech industry. Once they cross that line, there might be no going back. At the very least, they would have to cooperate with authorities to have those deranged people arrested.

You want to blame the neighbor? How bizarre.

so they intimidate people by attacking their houses.

The same tactics are used on Bush Cheney bumper stickers every day.

The time has come to "Pied Piper" the rats.

Newflash! The aforementioned behavior is, in fact, already against the law!

The new "Red Guard" (Green in this case). Let's see - they don't use Mao's little red book as their Bibles ---- what do they use? Earth in the Balance??? I am not up on the "Green Guard's" textbooks....Let's see if those who are in charge of protecting American citizens go after the Green Gestapo with the same gusto as was used against, say, the likes of the people at Waco, or the Christians who pray in front of abortion clinics......Just imagine - if Gore had won the fraudulent election of 2000 - he would HIMSELF be directing these attacks!

"these animals are out of control and need to be reined in...."

Agreed, arrested, tried, convicted and jailed. For longer terms than their "soccer mom" moms might like. It is only a matter of time before these dopes kill somebody.

I just want to know if the police were called and if they responded or if the neighbor was intimidated by the proscpect of retaliation by the terrorists. The report is incomplete IMO.

If the police failed to respond, that is one situation -- not good.

If the neighbors are intimidated and afraid -- also not good for two reasons:

One, they don't or cant rely on police protection from the crazy folks.

Two, "all it takes for evil to triumph if for good men to do nothing." To be an American, you have to take risks at times.
