Teach your children to knock on closed doors before entering a room. It's common courtesy, and in this case would have saved the child's life. Intruders don't knock.

It's the girls fault that this guy blew her away by firing through a closed door with know family members and/or friends living also in the house.

Why blame the girl for being a poor door knocker?

If my bedroom door was being opened in the middle of the night, the last thing I would be thinking is "intruder." I would think that it is one of my kids.

The other thing I find odd is the time it takes for the kid to open the door and the time it took him to get out of bed, get the gun, and fire.

Now if a window was broken or the front door, that is a whole different story.

Intruders don't knock.

Neither do frightened little five year old girls.

You're really blaming the CHILD in this? My children don't knock when they are scared. Many times, I haven't even known they had entered my room until I hear a frightened little, "Mommy?" next to my ear or feel a tiny little body snuggle next to me.

As for the neighborhood...if crime is bad enough that the loaded gun was kept within reach of where this man was sleeping, then the little girl should have been sleeping in their room to begin with.

Bless her heart...and rest her soul. :(

5 year olds are forgetful. There is no way you can blame the kid for this.

"The parents shared a bed with their three young daughters because the only other bedroom in the house is rented by another man, friends said. Police said Alejandra may have gotten up to use the bathroom and was returning to her parents' bed when she was mistaken for a burglar."
