Shrapnel in his arm that the doctor said he removed with tweezers and then covered with a bandaid.

His commander laughed him out of the office when he initially requested a Purple Heart for this. He got some rear echelon personnel to approve it (as I understand it) several months later when the people who knew these facts were gone.

Release them. I won't hurt Kerry. Do you think the union, transvestite, ambulance chasing, eco-freak'in, black church member, welfare participant robot is going to change their vote??

I think it was Ted Kennedy. Let's remember, there was a relationship with the Kennedys going back to Kerry's teenage years. After John Kennedy was shot in the early sixties and then Robert in '68, the pre-Chappaquiddick Ted was one of the most powerful men in Washington. John Kerry simply would not have failed to utilize this very capable friend of the family in Washington to facilitate his quest to acquire PT109-like war experience to put on his job application for President later on.
