Of color' usage points to certain core beliefs Gregory Kane
August 14, 2004
THE KEY PHRASE is "of color." Remember that, and you'll get some idea of the political leanings of the "journalists of color" who cheered Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry one day and cackled at President Bush's comments the next.
It happened more than a week ago, at the Unity: Journalists of Color convention in Washington. African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic-American and Native American print and broadcast reporters, columnists, editors and commentators heard both candidates speak. On Aug. 5, Kerry addressed the gathering. On Aug. 6, it was Bush's turn. The reactions to both were almost opposite, which caused some to claim an issue of bias had been raised.
No kidding! Would you expect anything else from a group that uses the term "of color"? As in "people of color" or "journalists of color" or "students of color"? The phrase is a favorite among those on the left side of the political spectrum. It gives them goose bumps and makes them feel all warm and fuzzy inside whenever it's uttered. If, on the other hand, you say it and can barely keep a straight face, then your politics are guaranteed to be moderate to right-of-center and you may have taken the remarks of both Kerry and Bush with the huge grains of salt they deserve.

Some of the "Bush is an idiot" remarks came from black journalists, an odd charge considering that eight years ago, one Louis Farrakhan addressed the National Association of Black Journalists and called them, in essence, worthless, sniveling poltroons with little backbone. They responded by giving him a standing ovation. And many of these folks think Bush is the idiot?

"Of color" is fine, yet people bristle when I use the term "swarthy."
Is there a "journalists without color" organization? There should be. It seems these people like to divide things into special interest groups, so we might just as well oblige.
Proposed name change - from naacp to naapoc.
"Of color" is a racist term. It means everyone who isn't white, and is meant to include Jews, even white women (who have been oppressed by "the man".
Of pallor.
The designation "of color" has no place in American society. Only liberals would attempt to perpetuate such a blatant affront to American ideals.
Standard commie groupthing and group-speak. "People Of Color" is mandated, though woe be to someone who merely swaps the terms and sez "Colored People."
I run in the other direction anytime I hear that term *lol*
Actually, they are "people of gender".
I kid you not.
What did they laugh at? The concept that we should help Iraq recover from repression, savagery and torture?
Bloom County had a good strip years ago during the arc where Steve Dallas had done a 180 and was now "sensitive".
His mother is looking out the window and says "Why look at those cute little pickininnies playing in the yard."
"Sensitive" Steve yells "Ma....you CAN'T say pickininny!"
She looks puzzled and suggests "Colored People?"
Steve is now apoplectic and is running through all the "acceptable" terms ending with a flourishing "People Of Color!"
To which ma repeats as "Colored Peopled".
Steve is, exasperatedly, defeated.
Mom: That's the most adorable little colored girl playing outside.
Steve Dallas: "Colored"? You're saying "colored people" in 1988? You know better, Ma.
Mom: Then why the "National Association for Colored People? I don't think Negroes mind at all.
Steve: Don't say "Negroes," Ma! You can't say "Negroes"!
Mom: Can I say "United Negro College Fund"?
Steve: You are baiting me, Ma!
Dad: That's it. We're leaving.
Mom: Stay put, Reginald. "Mister Socially Sensitive" isn't finished shaming his parents into enlightenment.
Steve: Everybody just calm down. Let's agree to use the New-Age term "People of Color."
Mom: People of Color.
Steve: People of Color.
Mom: Colored people.
Steve: NO!!
Dad: We're leaving.
