I would be curious to know how "appeasement" and "co-dependency" relate? They seem very similar---appeasement seems to be codependency at a national level. I also wonder if there isn't a similar root that has evolved for both.

Appeasement and Co-dependency do seem to be related. IMHO, the reason the RATS hate GWB is that he is a confident, decisive leader. Being co-dependent, by definition, means that you don't have self-confidence or a strong belief of self.
The RAT constituency appears to be made up of a bunch of co-dependent sheep who want someone to run their lives.
