I fully recognize that I am not the 'moderate/swing' voter that is all important to elected officials, but I have to wonder how such a person would react to what I would have liked to hear.

How would the mushy middle react if Thune had said, "I will apologize for one of my staffers calling Daschle a Chickens**t when Daschle stops acting like a chickens**t and debates me."

Would that play as crass among the middle, or would middle America like to hear blunt honesty?

Actually, I think many Americans didn't appreciate Vice-President Cheney's obscenity in the Senate. I think in public the Republicans should take the high road in language. It is quite possible to expose lies and criticize opponents without using foul language. We don't want to be identified with that way of talking.
