Sen. Intel Chief Calls on Kerry to Release Records
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Pat Roberts called on Sen. John Kerry to release his Intelligence Committee attendance records on Sunday - as controversy swirled over claims that the top Democrat was mostly a no-show during important hearings.
"The easiest way out of this is for John Kerry and John Edwards to request [Committee Vice Chairman] Sen. Rockefeller and myself to release the attendance [records]," Roberts told NBC's "Meet the Press." Roberts urged that any Kerry record release should cover "not only of the public hearings, which they have rebutted, but the closed hearings," adding, "It is important, because you have to be in attendance to learn the job."
The Kerry campaign has acknowledged that the Massachusetts Democrat missed scores of public hearings, but insisted he attended "private" sessions and is a "hard-working" member of the Intelligence Committee.
Asked if the "hard-working" description was accurate, Sen. Roberts declined to back Kerry up.
"Well, 'hard-working member' is in the eyes of the beholder," he told "Meet the Press."
A Bush Cheney campaign commercial set to debut on Monday accuses Kerry of being absent for 76 percent of the Intelligence Committee's hearings, noting that he was completely AWOL for the entire year after the 9/11 attacks.
"That same year," the ad says, "Sen. Kerry proposed slashing the intelligence budget by $6 billion."
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Jane Harman, who appeared on "Meet the Press" with Roberts, said she couldn't defend Kerry's Intelligence Committee attendance record.
"I don't know what the facts are and I really can't speak to that," she explained.
Can someone explain why Kerry has to release his Intel Commitee records? Isn't that already public record? I would hate to think that what our congressmen and senators do is not public record. However, I kinda like the idea that Kerry needs to release his records. He can be pounded on that for a while, and then if he does release them, he can be pounded on for a while longer.
"That same year," the ad says, "Sen. Kerry proposed slashing the intelligence budget by $6 billion."
FYI ping
The spin from the Kerry campaign out to be interesting in trying to explain this. How they reconcile this with the "hard work" he says he will do for us on his "sensitive" war. It's almost as if his campaign workers are in a parallel universe from Kerry's reality.
RELEASE ALL YOUR RECORDS
They have misquoted the ad.
Not to mention his wife's tax records. The double standard is stunning.
"Here a lie, there a lie. Here a flop, there a flip. Has the Kerry campaign any credibility left at all?"
When Kerry comes to a fork in the road, he will always..............take the fork!
Release all your records, military and attendance, Sen Kerry - what are you hiding?........
We pay these bums' salaries, and as such, we oughta be able to look at their time sheets. We have an out-of-control government (just take a look at what's going on here in New Jersey).
We had a sermon about Saul today, one who blew the annointing with lies, pride, etc. (1 Samuel, 2 Samuel)
I couldn't help but think of John Kerry...what a mess that man is.
This is a very good ad. This will do what the Dems accused the swiftvets of doing. They keep saying the swiftvets are lying by saying the served with Kerry. 75 % of the people who view this ad will think 9/11 not 1992 when they see it.Even News max got it wrong. We should get it right so we can't be accused of lying.
Kerry's toast.
You've confused me. Can you explain?
He's still a Senator. Just because he rarely goes to Capitol Hill doesn't mean he isn't still on the payroll.
And he'll still be one after he loses in Nov.
Whatever possesses Mass. residents to elect Teddy and Kerry year after year?? Can the rest of us force the state to secede?
Since when is a Bhuddist gesture and Islamic one? THey are two separate religions.
Go look at the commercial the article is wrong. The first attack on the World trade center was in 1992.That is whe Kerry did not show up for the intelligence committee not after 9/11.
