Yep, and that casts some doubt on the story.
If it's .22 rimfire, maybe.
But 900 rds of .223/5.56mm would weigh 142#,
and I suspect that 7.62 for AK isn't much different.

1000 rounds of 5.56 does not weigh anywhere near 100 lbs. More like ~ 45 lbs.

And I've found other sources that say a case of 1000 ct.
5.56mm/SS109 is only 32# as shipped. If so, it's
possible for a kid to carry, but the physical volume
is hardly concealable.
If the Palis need to rely on kids to smuggle ammo, they
must be running low. Welcome news.
