Great news, EV! Very helpful to have this kind of close-to-home info on King. I would say, in addition, that Ways & Means Chairman Bill Thomas of Bakersfield, CA, is very savvy on the economic effects of tax systems. About three years ago, those of us in California who support the Fair Tax had a meeting in Bakersfield to coordinate our plans to promote the HR 25 (HR 2525 at that time) legislation, and Bill Thomas gave us a very supportive letter indicating the Fair Tax Act met many of his own criteria for a new tax system. Thomas was largely responsible for passing the tax cut of May 29, 2003, that got our economy growing again. So I think Chairman Thomas will turn out to be an important and effective ally, too.

We have a wonderful core group in the House.

Though the progress is slower than we would often like, we are over time adding to our numbers in elected office.

There is no doubt in my mind that our numbers are going up in the next Congress, too.

Lord willing, we may even have a couple more powerful proponents in the Senate.

I'll catch up, sooner or later (likely later with a week of work to do by 9am!)

" If we are to provide for liberty and prosperity for our children and grandchildren, the NRST is the only way to go."

EV, despite our disagreements on other issues, this is one that I have no problem agreeing 100% on with you. I am pleased that Rep. King has brought this to the debate.

A BUMP to him and the Fair Tax, and soon may it pass!!!!

Well, then let me provide yet another BUMP!

I've been a fan of the Fair Tax ever since I first heard about it three years ago on Neal Boortz's show. I was skeptical of it ever being considered, for obvious reasons, but John Linder's election, and Peter King's endorsement gave me hope. The fact that not only Dennis Hastert, but the President himself have also expressed support and interest makes me even more optimistic that this needed overhaul of the tax system might one day come to pass.

We've managed to carry this issue far enough forward, that it is getting difficult to even win a GOP congressional primary in some places unless you are a FairTaxer.

Are you confusing Peter King and Steve King?

It might be better to send it to Dr Alan Keyes, who will be running hard on this issue in the Illinois senate race.

You're right, thank you, I back him 100 %.

Here is Rep. King's latest gutsy move. This guy is for real.

The article may be found by clicking the following link: http://www.ninedwarfs.com/

"Republican Congressman Steve King was at the Iowa State Fair speaking at the Des Moines Register Soap Box. While he was discussing the topic of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge he mentioned that there were no trees in the area that would be part of this project; "that line around the globe that's the Arctic Circle is the line north of which trees do not grow."

Well, Liberals couldn't let someone, let alone a Republican, speak such an evil truth as the one King had just brought forth. Enter Joseph Lakers, a Des Moines truck driver and if my guess is correct a card-carrying member of MoveOn.org. Lakers happened to be walking by, heard what King was saying, walked right up in front of King and started shouting "Liar!"

After a rather heated exchange with King, Lakers was removed and apparently was still arguing with the State Fair Security after the fact. I'm sure they enjoyed Lakers trying to convince them that Bush is the Prince of Darkness and King is but merely one of his demonic slaves.

According to the Des Moines Register, and I'm sure the editor would've rather eaten a big helping of Iowa pig shit than print this, King was right. The Register quotes James Pease, an assistant professor of natural resource ecology and management at Iowa State University, as saying King is "probably close to accurate."

Oh and not that I'd encourage anyone to give Mr. Lakers a call, at say three in the morning, but if you felt so compelled:

Joseph R Lakers 3116 Summit Vista Dr Des Moines, IA 50321-222 (515) 287-5493 "
