Probably because Huricane Center's 'computer model' predicted that Tampa Bay would be the landfall....many chose to stay.It was a complete surprise when Charley suddenly turned more eastward.
It wasn't a turn, more of a slight bend.
Even the NHC track gave Port Charlotte 90 mph winds, which are unsafe for trailers.

I agree 100%, but I don't think it's going to stop the leftwing loonies from spouting off that somehow Charley was a rightwing plot to help Dubya. There were a few threads early this morning from the leftwing rags deploring him giving federal aid to a critical swing state. The RATS and MSM have gone over the cliff with their hatred and lust for power. Nothing they say about this would suprise me.
