I lost everything in Andrew. It was a war zone and we didn't hear a peep from the state or the Feds for days. It was a week before we saw choppers bringing in supplies.

It was an awful mess. It went far beyond FEMA claims. It was a matter of getting medical attention and food to areas with no access in or out.

It looks like lessons were learned from the Andrew debacle.

yes, you are right. the local apparatus did nothing, except to have their commisioners go onto TV and blame Bush 41 and the Feds for doing nothing.

I remember it clearly, as I am always glued to hurricane coverage, they were coming onto CNN screaming that there was no water - the local government apparatus was unequipped to move bottled water into the area? they needed the federal government to do it?

Only the military was capable of dealing with the devestation involved. Really, it was that bad.
