Maureen Dowd: Laura Bush a GOP 'Attack Dog'
NewsMax.com ^ | 8/14/04 | Carl Limbacher

First lady Laura Bush is wildly popular with the American people, but not with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, who called her a GOP "attack dog" this week for speaking out on stem cell research.

"She's been dragged out to be a Republican attack dog on the most contentious issue, stem cell research, defending her husband's, you know, refusal to use more [stem cell] lines," Dowd told CBS "Early Show" host Hannah Storm while promoting her new book "Bushworld." "I think it's a huge mistake," warned the top Timeswoman. "Laura is this fantastic, nice, Marian-the-librarian-type who was curled up with a cat on her lap reading Dostoevsky" and "they drag Laura on to the campaign trail because she had such high approval ratings."

Of course, Dowd failed to note that the first lady's "attack" on stem cell research amounted to warning that the new science wouldn't do much to cure Alzheimer's.

That's exactly what Mr. Stem Cell Research himself, Ron P. Reagan said last month.

"Alzheimer's is a disease, ironically, that probably won't be amenable to treatment through stem cell therapies," Reagan told MSBC's Chris Matthews.

Make that, "attack dog" Ron Reagan.

It's unbelievabe that Maureen Dowd would so attack a lady with as much charm and class as Laura Bush. She didn't have much objection to the venom spewed by Hillary Clinton during her time as First Lady. Of course, it's only the wives of Republican Presidents that aren't allowed to speak their opinion.

>>"pig-ornery mean" Yikes. That can't be good.<<

It's not meant to be good. In any sense.

Pigs are probably the most intelligent animals on the farm, and they can become quite practiced in their favorite pastime, which is divided between passive resistance and open rebellion. If a pig sees a six-inch gap, from clear across the pen, while the herder is trying to drive it away from that side of the pen into a loading chute, for example, it will go between the drover's legs and head unerringly for the gap. If the pig hits the gap at a hard enough gallop, it will burst through. Though the escape may only be temporary, the pig has, for the moment, won. Meanwhile, the swineherd has been dumped in the mud, and is reduced to swearing vengence, or maybe just swearing.

Pigs know. But they don't have to be fatalistic. They go to their certain deaths kicking and screaming.

And Maureen Dowd, is one of those mixed up mongrels often referred to as a Heinz 57. Well that certainly explains a lot about her loyalties and attitude, doesn't it?

I've not head Mrs. Bush attack anyone. I've heard her gently explain that GWB is the ONLY president ever to provide Federal funding for stem cell research. I've heard her gently explain that the education funding increased more under GWB than under any other administration. Who has she attacked?

Dowd is another case of a mediocre writing "talent" being given a privileged voice to spout leftist dogma. Think of the actors/directors (e.g., the fat, untalented and very stupid Alec Baldwin or the very fat, untalented and stupid Michael Moore) that suddenly start winning awards or getting good movie roles only because they spout leftist politics. Dowd is an intellectual lightweight, i.e., she is an attack Pomeranian for the left.

You know, in the past I have bad mouthed Maureen Dowd big time, but after I saw her interviewed on C-Span, I came to the conclusion she is just a miserable person from A through Z! This woman is the coldest fish I have ever seen and is seething with hate within herself. From here on forward anything she writes is not worth the paper it is written on. And....Laura Bush has more class in wiggling her pinky finger then this human malcontent will ever have. She not only hates Ms. Bush, but she envies her. What a sorry excuse for a human being!!!!!

I caught part of that Harball segment at 2 in the morning while nursing a torn maniscus under my knee cap. I had put off seeing the doc again just so that I could attend a laura bush event here.

I vowed to never watch that POS, Chrissie Matthews, again. He had nothing nice to say about Laura (who had just appeared here the previous day and who I had seen in person) and called Tay-ray-zuh things like "lively and interesting." Gag, gag, gag.

Luckily the pain meds kicked in ,and I fell asleep. I couldn't take much more.

Note the telltale "you know". Maureen Dowd does not have a disciplined mind. One can see that by reading her columns. It comes across even more when you hear her speak. She does not have the self control to lie without giving away the game... "you know"...

The President is not refusing to use more stem cell lines. Actually, the President does not actually perform any stem cell research at all. The policy prevents Federal funds from being used on research on lines not already established. This is a moderate policy that does absolutely nothing to prevent private research and development on newly created stem cell lines.

The only way Maureen Dowd can beat up on the President over such a reasonable moderate policy is to misconstrue the President's position... "you know"... The sad thing is that Dowd and the interviewer both agree on the lie, and are working hand in glove. Dowd gives away the game by acknowledging verbally that nature of the agreement by inserting the "you know".

HArdball Transcript Wednesday

My gosh, I hadn't seen that one before. Talk about unbalanced - the two guests and Matthews all agreed that Teresa was just the nicest person and Laura was a schoolmarm that GWB married to compensate for his mother being hard on him. A long read but worthwhile if there is any doubt the media is still left-wing.

Of Laura Bush and Maureen Dowd, I find Maureen to be far the far canine of the two women.

Still dreaming of being "taken" by Bill Clinton, no doubt. What a pathetic, frustrated spinster.

She WAS taken by Clinton----she just didn't get any sex out of the experience.....
