I agree that these people probably sat in their houses because the media kept pushing the point that this hurricane was going much further north. If anyone is to fault in this, it would be the media for not persisting in getting people out of the area.

It has nothing to do with the "media", and it's nobody's fault except those who chose to stay behind.

Having lived in NC & Fla on several occasions, I think following news guidelines is helpful, but when we saw one of these babies was heading out way, we turned off all utilities, packed up & took a 4-5 day "vacation" inland. Didn't wait for mobs of people on highway for evacs.
If it passed over, PTL.. we had a nice time away. Most of the time this was the case. Better safe than sorry.
Thanks for all your input. This is a time of frustration & sorrow for many. It seems these large storms are so unpredictable.
A couple more on the way it seems.
Prayers & God's grace for all families affected by injury, death, damage to self or loved ones.

It's obvious you need someone to blame, but it's nobody's fault. Predicting the weather is not an exact science. Hurricane warnings were up, but landfall was supposed to be further north, in the Tampa/Clearwater area, based on historical models. Unless a person is clairvoyant, that person cannot predict what a hurricane will do minute to minute with the absolute precision you demand.
