Already happened according to the loop radar. Going right over Boca Grande and heading up into Charlotte Harbor.

New weather radar picture (15:41 Eastern) shows the eye just now clipping the beach west of Ft Walton Beach.

looks like landfall at Boca Grande. Storm has returned to NNE track, will be piling up water now in Charlotte Harbor.

I just called again and he is riding it out. He says all of his neighbors are still at home. I'm finding that hard to believe, but they are mostly elderly so it could be true.

I love Sanibel and Captiva, but these places are barrier islands. Nature intended them to protect the coast of Florida, and not for people to build permanent structures on them.

Blind pass was formed by Donna; Red Fish pass was formed by an earlier hurricane that split Captiva in two.

I wonder if they will let people rebuild after this.....

Eye just passed south of Boca Grande, and is entering Charlotte Harbor. Surge is just heading straight into Charlotte Harbor now, all the Canal Villages are going to get swamped.
