WRAL-TV was just live in Wrightsville Beach. It's pretty windy down there!
Yes, I imagine the stores around have no milk, no bread, and no water. Although some may be just saying, "Ho Hum" and not worrying about it. I hope it flies through and does little or no damage.
A pond near me is almost over the road - and into some houses. I expect that to happen soon. In fact some neighbors who back up to the pond have left. I'm glad they did.
BUMP...
Hope he's ok.
Yeah - saw that - now imagine those winds up here with these huge pine trees and oak trees on totally soggy ground.... Not good.
Thanks.

The Wilmington, NC Radar has the best view os TS Charley. (As of 1PM EDT 08/14/2004).
Hubby just got back from the store and said the normal "staples" were fully stocked, the store wasn't terribly crowded adn folks were just ding normal Saturday shopping.
I went out to get some lunch around 11:00 this morning. There wasn't a lot of traffic, and the local supermarket parking lot looked pretty full, but not "Oh My God A Hurricane is Coming" full. We've got enough in the house to tide us over, so I didn't stop there. I did some shopping Thursday after work.
But then there is the Book of Job, which is probably my least favorite book in the Bible because Satan asks God to do this and that to this poor man.
It does not shake Job's faith, but he has suffer greatly.
I just looked at the Wilmington radar, and it looks as though my area should be pretty windy and rainy by now, but it's not. Just a little rain, and no breeze to speak of. I went to bed late and got up early, so I'm going to take a nap before it starts getting really bad.
There were quite a few reports of tornadoes associated with Hurricane Charley yesterday as the outer squalls spiraled about the hurricane. This threat will continue today especially over the eastern Carolinas as Charley moves from coastal South Carolina inland over eastern North Carolina and then the Chesapeake Bay and Delaware Bay area as Charley continues northeastward tonight. Charley is now a minimal category one hurricane as it makes a second U.S. landfall in easternmost South Carolina. Charley is becoming a victim of strong upper-level shear from the southwest. Once inland and moving north-northeastward over eastern North Carolina, Charley will continue weakening as a tropical storm. Some mostly minor tree and power line damage is possible along Charley's track with some small storm surge along the coast. Heavy rain and some flooding will continue along the projected path as well as Charley races through the eastern Mid-Atlantic and New England to reach New Brunswick in the Canadian Maritimes by early Monday.
End of quote from www.weather.com (TWC Web page).
Prayers are still needed with the threat of tornadoes.
I did not hear or see much in this thread last night about tornadoes.
Rain's starting to get a bit heavier here. I did my WalMart run for stuff Thurs morning, got my paper today (mainly for the TV Guide) and we're set here. Kids are watching cartoons and pretty much driving me up the walls *LOL* Basically a normal weekend. so far...
It is a reflective radar, whatever that means. This radar does seem to show the movement of TS Charley (I don't think it is still a Hurricane, but it might be).
The Reflective Radar does not identify storm cells so much as give an indication of the intensity of the storm. Maybe someone with a better handle on meterology can respond about reflective radar and what is going on.
However, I did get from TWC (The Weather Channel) website that the Eastern Carolinas (North and South) should be wary of tornadoes.
am glad you're okay
thanks for the ping
Yup, our coast is on the east side. It would be difficult for a hurricane to make landfall in western South Carolina.
These media weather-guessers need to brush up on their geography. This morning, the lady that was pointing at the map for Fox failed to identify South Carolina entirely. She mentioned the watches and warnings in GA, NC and VA. She kept referring to our entire coast-line as the....uh....Myrtle Beach area.
It is in very poor taste to make such a comment at this time -- given the reports from Punta Gorda.
I once lived in a Mobile Home Park (Arizona), then bought a piece of land to move my Mobile Home to.
After I moved the Mobile Home, I saw a funnel cloud about 5 miles away. I think it did touch down and do some damage.
To put a tag on anyone who lives in a Mobile Home is not very American. In the part of Georgia I am in, some Catholic Sisters live in a Mobile home so they can help those who they help (the community they serve is mostly in the Mobile Home park).
They are single women, but they certainly do not spread their legs and produce babies all the time.
So your remarks are very insulting, in more ways than one.
Rain seems to have backed off here and it is very still.
Just a typical dreary saturday afternoon........
I am more interested in the wind than anything else. WRAL Website shows 10 MPH winds at RDU Airport. Were 8 MPH earlier. That's not bad, of course. But if we get up to 30 MPH even - trees will come down everywhere due to the soggy grounds. I won't be sitting here in that case......:-)
I ache for the people of Florida who are suffering so much and know the Salvation Army and many church ministries will be and are on their way right now to help clean up the mess and provide shelter and goods for those left homeless.
FEMA is good but we still have storm "victims" from Floyd who have not yet been paid - with money still in a State government fund that has not been distributed - if memory serves.
It's the churches, ministries, Salvation Army, and neighbors, really who are the most cost effective helpers during times like this. God bless them all!
Hmmm. Maybe God has a sense of humor.
Senator Kerry is about to fight Charley (again) with home video cameras -- Maybe that's the punch line from above.
