Cheney Mocks Kerry's 'Sensitive' War Against Terrorism

(Talon News) -- Vice President Dick Cheney continued to pound away at Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) during an appearance in Dayton, Ohio. Cheney has been skeptical of Kerry's commitment to the war on terror and is using the senator's record and words to make his point.

The vice president seized upon a phrase Kerry uttered in a speech to the Journalists of Color "Unity Conference" last week to launch Thursday's broadside. The Massachusetts senator told the minority journalists that he would wage a "more sensitive" war on terror.

Cheney said, "America has been in too many wars for any of our wishes, but not a one of them was won by being sensitive."

The vice president recalled that President Lincoln and General Grant did not wage sensitive warfare nor did President Roosevelt or Generals Eisenhower and MacArthur.

He said, "A "sensitive war" will not destroy the evil men who killed 3,000 Americans and who seek the chemical, nuclear and biological weapons to kill hundreds of thousands more."

"The men who beheaded Daniel Pearl and Paul Johnson will not be impressed by our sensitivity," Cheney added. "As our opponents see it, the problem isn't the thugs and murderers that we face, but our attitude."

Cheney said he believed the American people know that the war on terror is a fight to preserve freedom and a way of life. He asserted that the United States is on the side of rights and justice in that battle.

The Vice President said, "Those who threaten us and kill innocents around the world do not need to be treated more sensitively. They need to be destroyed."

Cheney suggested that Kerry sees the world as if the United States had never been attacked on September 11, 2001. He said that Kerry's admission that his view of the job of commander-in-chief is to use America's military strength only to respond to attacks.

"But September 11th showed us, as surely as anything can, that we must act against gathering dangers -- not wait to be attacked," Cheney stated "In the world we live in now, responding to attacks is not enough."

He recalled that in his convention speech, Kerry asked to be judged by his record. Cheney recited a list of talking points about the senator's record including the fact that during his tenure on the Senate Intelligence Committee, Kerry attended less than 25 percent of the committee's public meetings. The Vice President also cited Kerry's proposals to gut the intelligence budget by $7.5 billion in the aftermath of the first terror attack on the World Trade Center in 1993.

The Kerry campaign complained that Cheney took the senator's words out of context and suggested that the attacks were a sign of desperation within the Bush campaign.

Well, I've got news for Kerry, it wasn't only Cheney who was pounding him on it.

I think I was listening to Dennis Miller and one of the panelists, an AP reporter was also pounding away at the bizarre statement.

Since when is it wrong to point out total stupidity and ignorance?

ALL should have started ridiculing the insane idea of a "sensitive" war. The very thought of ut invites disaster.

If I had designs to take over this country, instead of spending money on armaments and solidiers, I would put most of my monies in moveon.org, answer, the dnc, and the kerry campaign.

Then simply walk in and kick the pansy-a** out!
