I wonder if the records would show how the Navy "helped" Kerry to get out. Kerry had powerful political connections (Skull and Bones for one and his father for another, perhaps a Kennedy for a third) that Zumwalt was surely made aware of.
If Kerry were some average Joe he would have been busted.
I think Swiftvets may be missing this point, along with others.

The authors provide a disappointing analysis of John Kerry's anti-war star turn in 1971. According to Colson and a couple of Globe articles Kerry came back from vietnam claiming to be pro-war. He switched (of course) to anti-war after losing to a pro-war candidate (Father Drinan?) in a Dem primary. No core beliefs at all, just expediency.

do you consider the possibility that they left his versions of these after action reports intact so that they could 'coerce' him into leaving the Swift Boats? I have read that there was an 'intervention' where they almost blackmailed him into leaving -

We don't know what's in Kerry's records. We only know that he acts like he doesn't want them released. I don't think he is playing "briar patch" games.

Additionally consider that one of Kerry's Purple Heart applications was turned down and then after 3 months or so it was revived and rewarded to him.
Looks like an administrative solution of the Kerry problem to me.

Kerry should release his records. He won't. He's sicking his lawyers instead!

I believe the primary reason sKerry went to Vietnam was to create a JFK/PT 109 - esque legacy.
I believe the reasons sKerry protested the Vietnam war were two fold:
1. Retribution against the Navy in general and his commanding officers after he was asked to leave his command.
2. Pure political opportunism.
Thank goodness there are men such as the Swiftboat Vets for Truth who are willing to stick their reputations in the line of fire to set the record straight - for the good our our country.

I think Kerry's hit his highwater mark now, and its downhill for him from now til the election.
The way I see it, Kerry has only two choices. He can continue to talk as if he went from Vietnam to this years primaries, or he can begin to move away from his central campaign theme (I'm a Vietnam War Vet!), and talk about what he's done since.
Neither is palatable to the public at this point. The average American is tired of listening to vets being trashed, no matter what political party they belong too.
At the same time, the reason Kerry has spent so much time on his Nam 'experience" is because his 18 year voting record displays a man who's been on the wrong side of history for each step along the way.
I can't wait to hear him explain to us common folks why he thought cutting 7.5 BILLION from the intelligence budget was a "good idea" that even Teddy "Drown Em" Kennedy couldn't support.

This book is going to be big. The story will be spread by word of mouth, since the book seems to contain so many compelling firsthand accounts.
Crush Kerry, please.
