It's not well known, but there are rumors of piracies of private yachts in the Gulf of Mexico. Supposedly by drug smugglers who abandon the boats on isolated coastlines

My brother is a yacht capt in the Gulf of Mex. He takes his boss and clients fishing and drinking all over, from the Keys to Cancun to Galveston. He has a full auto M-16 and plenty of ammo. Why can't a merchant ship have the same? At least a couple of AK's or something. Is there a law, or just politically correct?
