SAN FRANCISCO - The California Supreme Court ruled unanimously Thursday that San Francisco's mayor overstepped his authority by issuing same-sex marriage licenses this spring. The court also voided all the marriages of gay and lesbian couples sanctioned by the city.
The court said the city violated the law when it issued the certificates and performed the marriage ceremonies in a monthlong wedding march that began Feb. 12, because state legislation defines marriage as a union between a man and woman.

Does this mean that all those newly-weds will have to return all of their wedding gifts?
Sorry, my bad, Pull this thread,
How do you return edible panties?
Let the whining begin.
Rosie O'Donnell - Eat s*** and die!
BUMP! (So to speak...)
The local southern california channels reported that the calif supreme court ruling on the legality of the same-sex marriages was 5 to 2; which means 2 judges thought it should be legal.
Local news also reported that a number of the gay couples still consider themselves married and have a lawyer that will challenge the legality of their marriage. Hmmm, maybe the same Federal Judge that ruled the ban on partial-birth abortion was unconstitutional will help them out!
I hope it does become a mainstream issue because it will help the President, but only if the demoncrats inflict the issue on themselves.
The link says unanimous. The thread says 5 to 2. Which report is right?

excerpts on the California Supreme Court ruling:
While explicitly not ruling on the constitutionality of state laws defining marriage as a union of a man and a woman, the justices held that Mayor Gavin Newsom
exceeded his authority when he invited the monthlong gay wedding fest that began Feb. 12. It was brought to a halt by a state Supreme Court order on March 11.
The court was unanimous in keeping the ban in place and then voted 5-2 to void the gay marriages that were performed without waiting for results of pending
litigation against the state marriage laws. Justices Joyce Kennard and Kathryn Mickle Werdegar dissented on the latter point.
