Me either. But I listen to the dead almost every day. Just saw the dead this past week. I was afraid they'd get political and kill the buzz, but they restricted themselves each time to a short statement at the end of the first set by Weir encouraging people to vote. Of course, it goes without saying which way those votes would tend, but I give them credit for leaving it unsaid. They didn't mention the war. They just said it's important to vote and that you could register at the show. I'm OK with that. They can all vote for Nader. I met a Nader nerd with a clipboard in the parking lot.
How was the concert?
Who's filling Garcia's shoes?
I was also at MusikFest last night but chose NOT to see Crosby, Stills, & Nash. Instead we enjoyed seeing the Shirelles singing "Soldier Boy" and other oldies.
The Dead and associated bands (Phil & Friends, Ratdog, etc.) generally attract a liberal kind of fanbase. We never feel uncomfortable, though. I was at a Phil & Friends show last fall where I was afraid I'd hear a political or anti-war statement, but all that was said was "God bless our troops" and "Donate blood and become an organ donor." (no suprise, the usual donor rap from Phil)
My fiance and I love the Dead, the Allman Brothers, Phil & Friends, Gov't Mule, etc. - and they generally keep the music separate from their politics. I know they're libs, but they don't shove it out there like CSN does.
