Amazon isn't stupid. By allowing these "attacks" they get free press and the book sells even more.
I'm sure they don't want free press that their site can be easily hacked. That surely is not the way to increase sales.
Having worked at Amazon, I'm not overly surprised. At least while I was there, there were a large number of people with DB priviledges, and well, a large number of lefties.
If this really is someone with an axe to grind mod'ing the DB they will be shown the door though fairly soon...
I think that it's a great idea to change the book cover - more of the stupid clintonista brigade will buy them then blindly!
Don't count on it. The ideal thing to do would be for them to tighten the holes everywhere except right there. I wouldn't even be surprised if they are the source of the "hack".
Nah. The credit card servers are not the same as the image servers.
Looks like I'm not the only one that thought it was a tad fishy.
It depends on the type of audit logging within their database. If it's someone with DBA-level privileges, they could concievably cover their tracks...
Good grief, they're at it again! Even though they've apparently fixed it (again!), I'd suggest everyone contact amazon.com and let them know that you're so concerned about how easily their "secure" website is tampered with that you won't be purchasing from them anymore.
From the previous "FReep Amazon" thread:
Amazon tries VERY HARD to keep their contact info...besides e-mails....secret.
I did a Google search and found the goods though.
We need to Freep them (they will ignore the e-mails):

Well it is all about IMAGE is it not?
And if they can't stop a hacker from changing this page hwo can they stop a hacker form getting to the credit card server? Most sheeple don't know the difference.
"Nah. The credit card servers are not the same as the image servers."
Whew! I was getting a little nervous about continuing to order from them!
Their pro Kerry, pro klinton books are so in your face in terms of placement in their stores it just screams out that this company plans it and directs it this way....even when Hannity was NUMBER ONE on the NYT bestsellers list, his book was kept at the VERY BACK of our Barnes and Noble, along with the other conservative leaning books.
I e-mailed Amazon, and I suspect that a lot of others did as well.
I told them that they were losing customers because people who visited their site suspected ulterior motives.
Actually .. the point of changing the book is to disguise the title and therefore keep people from buying it .. which means the dems don't want you to find out what's in the book.
If, like the dems said, this book is "nothing", then why do they continue to attack the authors and all the veterans who support it ..??
There is also a phony, factually false "review" of the book at Barnes and Noble.
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?userid=zZ7xupq9fN&cds2Pid=5576&isbn=0895260174
The "reviewer" says: "This book claims John O'Neill and the contributors served with John Kerry while the truth is very few served with him or had any personel contact with him."
The book does NOT claim that John O'Neill served with Kerry, John O'Neill does not say, he served with Kerry, he said he took over the boat after Kerry left.
The "reviewer" is lying, deliberately misrepresenting the contents.
I think this needs to be brought to the attention of Amazon.com.
Other statements made in the "review" about Nixon also have absolutely nothing to do with the book or its review.
This is going to backfire.
