Swahili, IIRC, is a language largely based on Arabic, so the name Barack is probably Muslim, and a popular name in Kenya since a large portion of Kenya is Muslim.

If his grandfather's name was really Hussein Obama, then there is no question he was Muslim.

But he is not hiding his Muslim background- most Kenyans are Muslim. Every bio that I have of Obama mentions that his stepfather was a Muslim from Indonesia. 99% of people who hear the name "Barack Obama" assume that he is Muslim. If he wanted to hide his Muslim heritage, why wouldn't he change his name to, say, Barry O'Brian?
