Questions Arise Over Kerry Health Story-Family's Account Differs From Candidate's

HUDSON, N.H. -- A key detail in a story told by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry is being questioned.

The Massachusetts senator has repeatedly talked about a New Hampshire woman who was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Kerry says she continued working out of fear of losing her health insurance, because her husband was unemployed.

In television ads, e-mails and speeches, Kerry has used the plight of Mary Ann and John Knowles to criticize the Bush administration's health care policies.

But the Knowles' own account differs in one key detail. John Knowles told the New Hampshire Sunday News that Mary Ann could have taken disability leave without losing her health insurance, but needed to keep earning her full salary.

John Knowles said taking disability leave would have meant living on about 70 percent of Mary Ann's regular paycheck.

WATCH THE AD:

A year and a half ago, John Knowles lost his job as a software technical writer. To make ends meet, Mary Ann took on longer hours as an editor for a non-profit organization. Last July, Mary Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed a mastectomy and 16 weeks of chemotherapy. In order to maintain her full health benefits to afford the life saving surgery and treatment, Mary Ann had to continue to work full time. For the last 5 months, Mary Ann has juggled surgery, a prolonged recovery, chemo treatments, and side effects with a full work day that normally starts at 7 a.m.

“I’ve spoken to John Kerry a number of times since my diagnosis. I’m always deeply moved by his compassion regarding my illness, and the obvious empathy engendered by his own bout with cancer,” said Mary Ann Knowles. “When John Kerry is elected President, he’ll fight special interests like the drug companies, and allow average ordinary people like us to have peace of mind, and a chance to concentrate on getting well when we’re sick without the burden of going to work every day. When John Kerry is elected President, people like John won’t lose all their coverage when they lose their jobs. They’ll have options, and a fighting chance.”

----Is there ANYTHING Kerry has said that is founded on truth?---

not at the beginning or the end, but sometimes in the middle . . . of the same story, of course.

John Kerry: “The Knowles family is living through America’s healthcare crisis. John Knowles lost his job, his wife Mary Ann has breast cancer. To keep her health insurance she had to keep working right through the chemotherapy. We need to change that.

I’m John Kerry and I approved this message because in my first hundred days as president I’ll introduce legislation that makes your health insurance more important than the drug companies profits.”

Go ahead John, you just do that.

And then when the flow of new drugs, which is based on the drug companies' evil profits dries up, you can explain how you singlehandedly set back health care in America by several decades.

How many people are there who can not understand basic economics? Given the choice of paying a high price for drugs & living, I will pay the price. If the government forces the profit out of new drugs, we won't have this choice, we will just suffer or die.

"crap."

Some FReepers seem to think this is now a word fine to say in polite company. It turns up CONSTANTLY. Perhaps a refresher course on acceptable language might catch the attention of some and keep this from turning into something aking to the cesspool that is D.U.

Well I wouldn't know what they say over at DU, since I don't go there. Kerry is stuffed full of more crap than a Christmas goose. This is an absolute truth. If you have a problem with the word crap, should I start saying shit? After all, we are talking about Kerry.

I'm not a princess, and I don't play one online. Sometimes you have to use unacceptable language to really express your feelings. You should hang out around here more. There are hundreds of posters that you could chastise for off-color jokes and bad language.

Bush is a liar=projection. Kerry projects his behavior on his opponents. I would love someone important from the psychiatric community to chime in right about now. Fat chance.

Golly haven't these maroons heard of COBRA a federally mandated program to require continuance of one's health coverage after leaving a job?

Think it is not just Kerry, but rather a collective disorder of the Left.

To the 'clear-thinking'; rational 'words-mean-things', 'Right'. . .it is painfully obvious where they are coming from.

I do wonder sometimes, if they realize just how much they give away; how much they disclose in their 'self-revelatory projections'. . .and whether it is just as much of a tactic, as it is chronic symtom of Leftism.

Further evidence that liberalism causes mental illness. Every day comes more evidence that this guy is frighteningly "Clintonesque." And what is more frightening, the more Clintonesque Kerry proves to be, the more in love the sick and depraved half of the nation's voters will be with him.

I agree. "They" want someone in charge who will validate their selfish, warped existence. Bush doesn't, and they feel threatened by his commitment to decency, his commitment to God, and his patriotism. I think liberalism is the religion of stunted mental and emotional growth. It is frightening. Unfortunately I've known people like Kerry and Clinton in my life. It's the same MO on a smaller scale. The ego MUST be fed at all costs. Kerry is going to get nasty in the last few months towards the election.

The lies are piled up on top of lies, until the whole thing collapses. If you notice, nothing much seems to happen to them. They go on their merry way, continuing to spread destruction. Bill and Hill come to mind. I don't think anything will happen to Kerry about his lies and his traitorous activities, either.

Why is there such an explosion of these pathological traits? It's like humans are devolving :-(
