Company Says Farr Violated Rules
POSTED: 1:31 pm CDT August 10, 2004 UPDATED: 1:40 pm CDT August 10, 2004
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- A Republican Amtrak conductor has been suspended for suggesting passengers should vote against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.
Conductor Leslie Farr is challenging Democratic Congressman William Lacy Clay in the November election.
Last week, Farr was on a Kansas City-to-St. Louis train that was delayed several hours while waiting for Kerry's locomotive to leave St. Louis and head to a rally in Jefferson City.
Farr says he told passengers they would be delayed because of Kerry, then quipped that they should vote accordingly in November.

The thought makes my skin crawl. I can't decide whether my hand would get a burn or frostbite.
I want the freedom of speech bought and paid for by the blood of every soldier who ever died in any US war....and I believe everyone in America deserves the same!!
I went to Amtrack website and hit contact us, and sent a nice message under "other" contact reasons. I told them my trip planned on Amtrack would take another avenue since Free Speech on Amtrack wasn't possible. I also told them I was appalled at suspension of the employee, and they should apologize and restore position. I also said I would be speaking to others about Amtrack's supression of FreeSpeech, and they should travel another way...hopefully they will realize who pays for these trains.
These libs want to muffle everyones free speech except the ones who say "Kerry is King".
Boycott Amtrak... naw, that would never work. No one would notice. ;')
Laura Ingraham wrote a book "shut up and sing".
It is good advice for them and good advice for everyone else while on the job.
The train conductor should shut up and conduct.
What was he conducting? He was mollifying passengers in a stationary train who had a several HOUR delay! Conductors do routines to pass the time if there is a several MINUTE delay going into Union Station, DC. (One I am familiar with.)
Mr. Farr had his reasons, though. He was aboard a train delayed 84 minutes last weekend while Mr. Kerry's "Believe in America" campaign train chugged down the track from St. Louis to Jefferson City, Mo., for a rally.
[I wonder how many freight trains were held up as the railroad grid was interfered with for 84 minuts for Mr Kerry's arrogance.]
Mr. Farr told disgruntled passengers the delay was Mr. Kerry's fault, and advised the riders to "vote accordingly."
Irked Amtrak officials sent the conductor packing. But an irked Mr. Farr told Associated Press that while some passengers may have taken offense, "others likely were offended that Kerry campaign banners were draped over Amtrak property." But he's still a political kind of guy. Mr. Farr a Republican who will also serve as a delegate at this month's New York convention is currently challenging Rep. William Lacy Clay, Missouri Democrat, in the fall elections.
Wouldn't hanging banner s constitute a political statement!
