Everytime I read this I want to scream. They are making it out like he was on a ship out at sea and that these guys were on other ships. They were in such close proximity, on other boats (like fishing boat sized) within 50 yards of each other day in and day out. That is like me saying I don't 'know' someone who works on the floor below me who works in the same company. I mean I see them every day, know them well, but don't sit next to them directly.
Serving with someone doesn't require being on their boat any more than it would require a wimgman to be on another's plane.
Heard this analogy on another thread: If someone sees a car accident do you disbelieve his testimony because he wasn't in the car.
