The monument was erected to honor William S. Mosher, a local philanthropist who dedicated much of his life to the Star of Hope Mission.

$41,000 in private cash would have paid for myriad monuments to the various atheist philanthropists whose dedication to human life has made Houston a better place, I'm sure.
