He wasn't "near" and the "yeah but he was a stupid idiot who never knew where he was" angle fits right into the testimony of the honorable swift vets who claim Kerry was dangerous. Their reason for coming forth is consistent with the same premise as Hugh's book: John Kerry is going to get us killed! - that is why some of the vets wanted him out ASAP even if he was knowingly cheating to do it.

True...it was clearly a lie that he was in....he is telling the truth (or some semblance of it now) when he admits he was not in the country.

It is remarkable that he continued the "in Cambodia" line at least until 1992.
