Mason's routine was running long during one show, the director gave him the 'cut' signal, and Mason flipped him off...on **live** TV, iirc.

Ed Sullivan ran his show like a stalag and Jackie's bit was running long. The fellow standing with the cue cards was giving him the (finger across the throat) cut sign to wrap it up, several times. This seemed to piss Jackie off and as he finished his bit he showed his index NOT the midddle) finger to the left, right, and front and said something along the lines of "here's a finger for you, and a finger for you, and a finger for you." He never appeared on the Sullivan show again and it seemed that he was black balled from television for about ten or fifteen years.
