Early on Stein talks about the extreme effort being made by lefties today at thought control and suppression of free speech which disagrees with their opinions - he ladels it "Stalinist", a quite appropriate term which should be used more often (and this talk was given before 'rats sent out their armies of lawyers to squelch the Swiftvets ads)

"Can America Survive"
An interesting title. I have also been thinking lately about whether a secular, affluent nation can survive. America was made strong by a tradition of freedom, sacrifice, religion, and ingenuity.
I think we're more and more resembling whats happened to europe. Not necesarily in our politics, but in our lifestyles and attitudes. Discuss.

I saw a brief interview with him and he made good points.
Sociologists and anthropolgists have maintained that to survivie a society needs the basic institutions such as the family and religion. Yet these are what many judges and politicians are trying to destroy.

Most people just remember Ben Stein for "Beuller, Beuller". But he is really quite an intellectual.

Thank you so much for posting this. I just finished watching the program and Stein was a real inspiration. I've got to get his book. Sounds like very useful ammo against the wrong-headed negativity that abounds us.

Stein says that the ereason that the left hates Bush so much is because they are chicken of the terrorists so they transfer all that fear onto Bush. Kind of makes sense.

This was re-run 8/21/04
Ben Stein talked about the book he co-authored with Phil Demuth, Can America Survive?, published by New Beginnings Press. They argued that Hollywood, environmentalists, and the news media are equally as threatening as terrorists with their "anti-American" views. The book also included examples of these attacks as well solutions to these problems. After the discussion, Mr. Stein answered questions from members of the audience. This event is hosted by the Young America's Foundation at George Washington University.

Was just browsing at Border's and noticed Ben Stein's book, "Can America Survive?", started reading it, couldn't put it down... bought it, brought it home, and now will get farther into it. Really looks EXCELLENT.
