The 1st Cavalry Division, Horse Cavalry Detachment, based at Fort Hood, Texas, is the last Mounted Cavalry Unit in the United States Army. The mission of the detachment is three-fold; to represent the 1st Cavalry Division and the U.S. Army in public appearances throughout the country, assist in recruiting by demonstrating the professionalism of todays soldier, and maintain the proud traditions forged by the cavalry in our countrys colorful history. There is a soldier manning the barn 24 hours a day 365 days a year. You are welcome to stop by and get a tour of our facilities at any time. - More

Put 2 rear white socks on that first horse and he looks identical to mine. (except he doesn't run away from me like that)
My uncle was in the cavalry prior to WWII. When the war started they took away his horse and gave him a jeep.

re picture # 6 - is that a freeze brand or a scar on the lower part of that horse's neck? We used to get BLM burros with freeze brands that looked very close to that.

What's with the Western saddles in the Cavalry? It oughta be officer's saddles and McClellans!

I had the pleasure of watching this bunch perform a few years ago.
They put on a totally excellent show and if you get a chance to watch them it is well worth the experience.

I don't see anything that looks like a freeze brand. That mark doesn't look big enough or make an identifiable symbol.
My Arabian is freeze branded under the mane with his registration number in Arabic. Most identification brands would be on a shoulder or hindquarter.

FARB -- Used as both an adjective ("farby") and a noun. Indicates a reenactor, item, or activity that is not an accurate portrayal of the times - an anachronism or modern item. Supposedly short for "Far be it from authentic." Examples are a costumed reenactor wearing modern eye glasses or sitting in an aluminum lawn chair, or ladies wearing prom gowns, or a costume created from polyester fabric. Term is usually applied to very obviously inaccurate portrayals or items.

Ah.... thank you. As one who hangs out with ~purists~ of one stripe or another, that would be a useful term to know.
