I drove through NC last week and stopped at Smithfield's. Had a pork sandwich, which was pretty good. This is a chain, so I'd be interested in a native's opinion.

Yes, we do. Sweatman's, in Holly Hill, South Carolina, beats any I had in North Carolina. They have the best ribs I've had anywhere (in a restaruant, that is. Best ribs of all are at my house!!)

The best all-around barbecue restaurant, in my experience, is Billy's Barbecue, in Lexington, KY. Everything is delicious there, and they do custom barbecuing for hunters. Cole slaw and fried banana peppers to die for. I used to eat there so often, they gave me free beer. When I got married, the fellow who was manager at the time, was best man at my wedding.
