Slow news day?

(really friendly comment follows)
Pharmboy,
Please have a little mercy on the real "farm-boys/girls" and ranch hands in
fly-over country.

Before the cinema and the telephone came to town, what else was there
for sheer pleasure besides a good harvest and meeting a purty girl on Sunday at church?

I suspect that good (or even decent) BBQ is just about the best "anti-depressant" for
growing up in a places that look/felt as "black and white" as "The Last Picture Show"!

Friend, I know (as you do too, since you are also a long-time Freeper) that irony, sarcasm, tongue-in-cheekdom, wise-*ssness, &etc., are hard to communicate on these boards. With that in mind, I put the little wink emoticon ;-) after my comment so anyone would pretty much know that I was being a bit playful.

My comment was friendly, and perhaps as a Yankee, I knew that I really couldn't say much ('cept I HAVE eaten ribs in Memphis at the Rendezvous and at the place with the wet ones too).

Further, I lived for 4 great years in Cincinnati (some would say Walt's Hitching Post does decent ribs), and 7 years WAY upstate NY. So, I have pretty good flyover credentials myself.

With all that said, I meant no snobbery--just having a little fun.
