That was my thought, too, Hank. I can't imagine the horror of waking up in pain, and seeing that it's your loved one causing it--indeed, seeing the murderous look in those eyes. Her dad is right. He's a murdering coward. (Remember, the lies were originally constructed to hide the fact that he didn't measure up to the rest of his family--another proof of cowardice.)
I hope they manage to do this. Note: I do not really expect Mark to ever do the decent thing--he's not a decent human being. The only consideration he gives is to himself.
I watched a portion of the Cosby show on its rerun a couple of hours later. She does seem pretty sure that's how it's going to go down. On the other hand, she could be hearing from family members who are simply hoping that's how it will be.
Exactly so! In fact, I have found fault with both the prosecution and the defense side of the law.
For instance, in Oklahoma City, we had a D.A. who had an incredible run of wins. In fact, it was so incredible, that it turns out to have been an issue of manufacturing the evidence to suit the DA's theory. Some 15-20 people were finally released when DNA evidence proved that they did not--could not--commit the crimes.
Some had spent as long as 17 years in prison, and of those, most had done hard time because they would neither confess nor repent the crimes they didn't commit in the first place. (In this state, you get certain perks if you confess and repent.) Even worse, there are rumors that there were more who were wrongly put to death--but they refused to comment on that.
Then there's the other side of this: the lawyers who, in the course of doing their duty, twist the facts around and sweet-talk a jury into letting a guilty person go.
Still, I don't know of an alternative, workable system. Trial by media isn't much of an alternative; neither, I suppose, is trial by Freepers.
And I'm sure you're right about all info LE has; as usual, I bet there's alot more to this story than we have heard so far. Reason for murder has more to do with pregnancy than this deal about him (unsuccesfully) competing with siblings-my guess anyway...
"Oh Fox, Mark wants us to think the murder wasn't as heinous, since he killed her while she was asleep. She just didn't wake up. That's where he is going with this one, if he STILL admits to it."
ie., Mark wants people to think that it takes A REAL man to kill a woman in her sleep (rolls eyes) plus his insanity defense. He's scum like any other scum.
I just don't believe anything he says. Who can?
