Despite the death of his child and the horrors inflicted on his then-lover, it's still all about Joel Steinberg.

An ignoramuss with a total disregard for civilized society. That this creep is allowed to walk around the streets, speak out, maybe even practice law again, is chilling. The depraved child-killer epitomizes the Aberrant Culture.

Wait until the Democrat Party nominates someone like this for President... shouldn't be too long.

October 16, 2003
SafeNet hosted its Fourth Annual Benefit Luncheon Porter 's Restaurant
With Keynote Speaker Hedda Nussbaum

Hedda Nussbaum, the nation's best known survivor of domestic violence, is ready to help others by telling her story.

Ten years ago, Hedda Nussbaum became a household name. Her face, shattered and scarred after years of physical abuse by her live-in partner, Joel Steinberg, was splashed across newspaper and magazine covers when Steinberg beat the couple's 6 year old adopted daughter Lisa to death.

Today, she is able to tell her own story of domestic violence, to talk about the beatings she endured, in the hope that it will shed light on this despicable crime.

Many people were shocked to find that this problem could occur in a household like this one: educated, affluent people, she a book editor for a major publishing company and he a successful lawyer. Her story illustrates that domestic violence can and does happen in any kind of home.

These days, Ms. Nussbaum co-facilitates a regular domestic violence support group. She has participated in a massive e-mail campaign and also got thousands of petition signatures to discourage the New York State authorities from paroling Joel Steinberg, who to this day, refuses to accept responsibility for the death of Lisa and the violence towards Hedda.

The Parole Board turned down Joel Steinberg's request.

I'm surprised that he survived 17 years in prison, and that one of the *general population* didn't "Dahmer-ize" him. Of course, maybe he was isolated from them for all that time. Too bad, if he was. IMO, he still deserves death. He is evil.

In less "civilized" times cowards like this would be given a very sound beating or two to keep his yap shut.

Sounds like a six year old that has just broken a window. Honest mom, as he stands there with a stone in his hand.

I think the term that needs to be applied to him is Sociopath.

Abortion should have been retroactive in his case.

...illegally adopted daughter Lisa ...-snip- ..."I was a good father," Steinberg said in an interview with New York magazine. "Of course, I'm sorry my daughter's dead. But the medical reports showed no 'present' or 'historical' fractures or wounds. That means no history of abuse. Got it?"

...where they lived with his brutalized lover Hedda Nussbaum, and another illegally adopted child, 17-month-old Travis Smiegel. ...

... -snip- ..."How come nobody saw nothin'?" Steinberg said. ...-snip- ...Steinberg, 63, claims that had he struck the 6-year-old — whose body pathologists said bore a "map of pain" — "the bruise would have been bigger than her head." Steinberg did, however, admit to pushing Lisa, "with the soft pad, you know, on your palm?" --SNIP--

The unrepentant Steinberg also points a finger at nearly every lawyer involved in the case — the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, former O.J. Simpson lawyer Barry Scheck — who represented Nussbaum — and his own lawyer, Ira London. --SNIP-- "I'm a good lawyer, disbarred or not, and it would be wrong to throw all of that experience away . . . And some day, I hope to practice again."

His own words demonstrate the twisted thinking and irrational rationalization of everything. It all happened around him, he was clearly the victim of circumstance - in his mind. Yep, he's the only good lawyer. (said with utmost sarcasm) Oh, and clearly a good father, too, - most 'good' parents push around their kids.

He give lawyers everywhere a bad name, slimy to the last.

That this creep is allowed to walk around the streets, speak out, maybe even practice law again, is chilling. The depraved child-killer epitomizes the Aberrant Culture.

You said it! He is depraved and unrepentant. And that makes him still a danger to those around. He should be disbarred permanently, but there is probably some like-minded lawyer out there willing to help him. Barf.

Regardless that 'Hedda Nussbaum' was obviously a 'victim' of abuse, how dare she not also take responsibility for the death of the child. How dare she sit at a desk and go around giving talks while being paid by taxpayers dollars. She is a leach.

Sorry if this sounds hard hearted but I have the right to make such a statement and it isn't because I am a woman but was a 'victim' of spousal abuse during my first marriage, 45 years ago, which by the way was a during the time that you stuck with the evil ba$tard because divorce was not something that was common.

Fortunately I had the good sense to leave and take our 18 month old daughter with me. I shudder at times to think of what he may have done to her if I had stayed.

Evil has many faces.

I thought you had to admit guilt and be remorseful before they let you out of jail.
