The Bush administration has invited a team of international monitors to observe the U.S. presidential election in November, but the group will not come from the United Nations, as some congressional Democrats had urged.
Assistant Secretary of State Paul V. Kelly, who handles legislative affairs for the department, affirmed the invitation this week in a letter to 13 House Democrats. They had requested U.N. monitors for this year's elections in an effort to avoid the charges of disenfranchisement and voting irregularities that plagued the 2000 election, the closest in history.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the largest regional organization in the world with 55 participating nations, will monitor the U.S. election on Nov. 2. Members include Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Spain and the United States.
"OSCE members, including the United States, agreed in 1990 in Copenhagen to allow fellow members to observe elections in one another's countries," Mr. Kelly wrote. "Consistent with this commitment, the United States has already invited the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to observe the November 2, 2004, presidential elections."

These people may just catch that "crooked, lying bunch" trying to steal the election.
I have no problem with this, though I would have preferred they not be invited.

True, but there are many who can't/won't understand this unless it's pointed out to them. And the media isn't about to do this. And then there are those who aren't interested in the facts. It doesn't suit their agenda.
They are coming from 55 nations. I wonder how many from each nation. It will cost a fortune.
I can't help it but this makes me ill. Just the thoughts of our elections being judged by 3rd world countries. This sure doesn't say much for the American people.
And all those black churches that burned during Clinton's youth. Oh the humanity! Lies, lies, and more lies. Nobody in the press cared, nor did they care about the disenfranchisement of military voters.
Kerry's secret internal polling shows he's in deep doo doo, so what to do? Why whip out plan B., which is to steal the election. They've been plotting this for four years, hence all the lawyers on the payroll, etc.. Maybe outside observers will screw up plan B. One can hope so. But part of me is insulted. It's America's business who's elected, nobody else's. Just wait, the rest of the world is already demanding the right to vote in our election, thank you very much. Unfreekingbelievable.
The taxpayers will pay for all those observers. of course.
On second thought, maybe it might be ok if Bush would put the Russians on the border down here. But it will be my luck for Bush to put more Mexicans guarding our election frauds. LOL. It is a fact that Mexicans come across the border to vote.
You are right, the taxpayers will pay everything for these people. I wish I could get a job like that.
I don't think it is a given that we will foot the bill. You'd probably have to get into the 1990 agreement to know for sure.
Actually .. I think the President has another plan .. and he wouldn't have announced foreign assistance if he hadn't already made some type of agreement with these countries in advance.
My theory is .. these countries will view our voting systems and then teach their own people how to implement those voting systems IN IRAQ!! since the UN has refused to do so.
And .. I think you bring up a good point. 6000 attorneys shows a determination to take advantage of every close race. And I agree these people may keep the lid on this activity.
Thank you leadpenny for making me look this site up on google. I found out that both of these organization are UN organigzations. I will not vote in this election. I do not appreciate Bush insinuating that this is not the UN.
Ultimately, we always pay for the UN. I can't believes Bush is doing this after the corruption that has come out regarding the UN food , oil for Iraq. To have this corrupt group plus the Democrats is outrageous.
I suggest you look up on google both these groups. Both groups OSCE and ODIHR are none other than the UN.

I looked up OSCE on Yahoo and I can't find a single reference to any connection to the UN. OSCE is located in Austria.
And that would be ironic, wouldn't it. Hoist on their own petard. Ha!
Don't you just love it. We pay for the privilege of foreigners looking down their noses at our election process. But if it keeps Kerry from stealing the presidency, it has to be worth it. This election matters beyond belief.
Ah, clever idea...that. Have nascent democratic countries or wannabies come to see how elections are done. A two-fer! Once again it proves adults are running the show in D.C..
