(CNN) -- A drop in so-called "chatter" among suspected terrorists is troubling some counterterrorism officials, who noticed a reduction in intercepted communications before the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, government sources said.

I'm worried because my wife is chattering so much less than usual.

You probably don't notice, because you built up a resistance.

It is strange though. When the terrorists chatter goes up, it's a big deal. When terrorist chatter goes down, it's a big deal. I wonder if they'll ever send a press release: "Appropriate amount of Terror Chatter today".

It couldn't possibly be that the terrorists read the news accounts of how they caught Al-Qaeda's main email clearinghouse and that he was supposed to send fake messages to everyone so they could be captured. If I were Al Qaeda I wouldn't be answering my email right about now.

Too bad these supposed "news" groupies can't be a bit more specific in the WHO they are talking about when the use terms like "counter-terrorism officials". This could be anybody that wears a badge, to some congress critter on the INTEL or armed service committee.

Just never know if what they tell us is a "leak" to let the terrorist know what the status of things are or if we are actually being informed with legit information.

"I suspect the American team will be too closely guarded, so they will hit the Italian, Polish and English teams."

Nah. These are pig-faced cowards...they won't attack into our strength, look for something unexpected and removed from the 'front-lines.'

I will agree with your predictions. Athens and the EU are easy pickings for the terrorists.

Chuckle! The word "sensitive" makes me want to laugh or vomit these days, I can't tell which. Maybe both.

The increase in chatter is a worrying sign, and the decrease in chatter is a worrying sign, too. This serves to show that one cannot please all the people all the time, no matter what. I would suggest that the voltage should be ramped up from 110V AC to 120V AC, and the pressure in pneumatic units likewise increased by 2-3 psi. This should speedily bring the chatter back to the normal levels.

Texas Eagle,

Undoubtedly, you have created the best synopsis of the situation. I would add 1,200 Al Quada terrorists in Iraq surrendering to US troops as a clear sign that there's less Ahmeds on the "Friends and Family Calling Plan," or the "AOL Buddy List."

Somebody call Katherine Harris' office that the secret war on terror has produced stunning results. Wait. She already knows. Better call all the Florida newspapers, the mayor of Carmel, Indiana (D), the governor of Indiana (D), and all the kool-aid drinkers at the DNC for emboldening our enemies with treacherous rhetoric.

We had a chance, a brief chance, post-9/11. But we utterly failed to protect our boundaries. I agree Montag. And we failed miserably.

And the really sad thing is that, contrary to approved FR wisdom, I believe that if Bush had closed the borders on 9/12, interned and then deported all noncitizen Arab males, and had levelled Fallujah in April, he would be up 25 points in the polls.

Reportedly, and this is from mostly Greek newspapers...there are hints that Athens paid off $200 million to some AQ middle-men to ensure no trouble at the games.

Wonder if NBC coughed up any of that?

Agreed. They will hit a Eurotrash team to increase pressure on the Americans to release their people at Gitmo. This just hit me. It's perfect for them.

You know I can't help think that some day something has to go.

They keep us in fear in so many ways that some day we will say enough is enough.

Don't give the RATs so much credit. Due to Clinton and Jamie Gorelick our intelligence agencies hit a brick wall pre 9/11. No exchange of information, no way, no how. The families of 9/11 victims should sue the living daylights out of Clinton and Gorelick. And that rat, Sandy Berger.

Oh, goodie. The US team all housed in one place, a la the Cole. But compared to the alternative...athletes running loose all over the place, subject to sniper fire or kidnapping, this at least might thwart something nasty. Let's hope so.

In a world where justice prevailed, Gorelick, the Clintons, and Berger would be accountable for the pre-9/11 evil they have caused.

I actually would settle for just some honest investigative reporting on these matters by the mainstream media.
