You, sir, are correct. My Neil mythology is a little fuzzy anymore. The hearse was called "Mortimer" and its demise was the basis of his song "Long May You Run." That song makes sense when you think of it being about a car that took him throughout much of his early career!

Well, Duh. However, William King was the musical genius behind "Brick House" AND many other Commodores tunes. Unfortunately, the only one people wanna give credit to is Lionel Ritchie.

William King wrote "Brick House". So deal. ;0)

All the lyrics sites have it under Lionel Richie.

What else did he write?

"She's a very freaky girrrrrl...the kind you don't take home to muthaaaaaaa"

Actually it is "kinky girl" - a very important distinction

Agreed! Teena was fantastic and Rick was weak. His voice did not have the edge on it. His backup singers were far better. I wish he would have taken better care of himself because he did have a lot of talent. I couldn't believe how good Teena Marie sounded after all these years. It was a fun concert. My wife and I also love Earth, Wind and Fire concerts in Baltimore.

teena marie is exactly my age, and i have always loved both of them, Rick and Teena. as soon as i heard that concert advertized, i told my hub, we are GOING! i have seen the Commodores and the Temptations at my hub's annual conferences the past few years. i would love to see EW&F. the cool thing is that my 15 yo daughter is totally into 80s music. i wanted to take her to the rick james concert but glad i didn't, bc the language was a little bit ....blue, esp that comic at the beginning.

He was part of the Commodores, along with Lionel Ritchie. People who put the lyrics to Commodores songs under "Lionel Ritchie" are ig'nant ;0)

William King wrote, or co-wrote (where noted) the following Commodores tunes: "Thumpin' Music", "Funky Situation", "Young Girls Are My Weakness" (with Ronald LaPread), "Time" (with Thomas McClary) "I Feel Sanctified" (with the group and Jeffrey Bowen), "You Don't Know That I Know", "Let's Get Started", "Brick House", "Too Hot Ta Trot" (with the group), "Fire Girl" (with Darrell Jones and David Cochrane from the Mean Machine), "You're Special","Mighty Spirit" (with Harold Hudson from the Mean Machine) and "Lady (You Bring Me Up)" (with Shirley King and Harold Hudson)...

Now with Rick James gone, I'm very happy we went to the concert. I was expecting Rick James to be more mellow given his age and rough life. Nope, he was crass. He had the audience chanting "we're going turn this M* F* out". That comic was not funny, just disgusting. If you go see EW&F, see them in Baltimore. Last month we saw them at both Nissan Pavillion in Virginia and Pier Six in Baltimore. The folks in Baltimore know all the songs and are 110% into the concert. You get a lot more from the performers in that kind of environment.

This is a sad day for all "Ticket Heads."

I haven't read the whole thread, so I'm don't know if it's been reported before, but a movie about his life starring Jamie Foxx is or already has been made. Looks like he was going to get a new lease on life. Too bad.

Wasn't Rick also in a band with Jonathan Kay of Steppenwolf?

Death is powerless against Keith Richards.

Only two things will survive a nuclear war, cockroaches and Keith Richards.

I don't know about that. But if Kay had some drugs, I'm sure Rick knew the bass line!
