ALL ABOARD!

Jobs funk sparks more Bush-bashing

By Shawn Langlois, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 1:52 PM ET Aug. 6, 2004

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS.MW) -- President Bush has taken more than his fair share of abuse in cyberspace lately. Maybe Friday's virtual roast should have been aimed more appropriately at the economic analysts.

After all, these are the guys who expected U.S. employers to add about 228,000 jobs in July when, in actuality, that number came in at about 32,000. See full story.

But no; judging from the thousands upon thousands of posts piling up across the Web, it's much more fun to slam the president.

And to make matters worse, the usually outspoken clan of Bush supporters was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps they were among the scant few who actually managed to nab a job last month.

Either way, the raucous message board masses were on the anti-Bush warpath yet again.

Take EggsGym65, for instance: "We're all going to be flipping burgers for each other if Bush stays in office. The economy is a mess, our international reputation is in tatters, and our federal deficit is the LARGEST it has ever been in the history of our country."

Schadenfrau took a page from Michael Moore's book: "The economy is in the toilet; means time for another terror alert."

Wake up, folks, urged TPatMaho on Yahoo: "Bush is wrecking your economy, your kids have no health care, the rich people are robbing you blind ... but all the Chimp has to do is wave a bible and flag at you, and you vote like lemmings."

BrandonRD1956 busted out his own bible while seeking out the report's silver lining: "Maybe not so bad if it gets Bush out of there. God writes straight with crooked lines."

A resounding amen, courtesy of GhostWrite2003: "The only good unemployment statistic: George Bush on January 20, 2005."

Boinkers added just a touch of sarcasm: "Who needs a job when there are people in far away countries that don't take showers, dress and speak oddly, don't like NASCAR, never heard of Toby Keith and don't pray to Jesus.

"It's worth collapsing the economy as long as the U.S. spreads its narrow-minded, trailer-trash, theocratical notion of 'freedom' over the world!"

Finally, all MonkeyMan could do was to shake his head: "Four years negative job production. Corporations doing great with profits. Anybody want to put two and two together and see who Bush cares about? Every time I see someone applauding this guy, I shake my head and wonder about the dumbing down of America.

Only the Kerry pimps at CBS could call one of the greatest periods of US job growth in ten years as a tragedy.

Ok, so it's the fault of the economists because this economy is adding jobs like the Olsen Twins add weight? Please.

When unemployment hit 5.5 percent under Clinton they were singing his praises to the skies.

Yes, and the unemployment rate at this stage in Clinton's first term (July 1996) was 5.5%, exactly the same as it is now under Bush.

This is similar to the whole reason that Bernie Goldberg wrote his books.

Total number of jobs in the United States has risen every month since WW11. Look it up.

We're all going to be flipping burgers for each other if Bush stays in office. The economy is a mess, our international reputation is in tatters, and our federal deficit is the LARGEST it has ever been in the history of our country.

What the heck? Doesn't Bush realize that this is an election year!?!

He should just make 2.6 million manufacturing jobs, paying between $60,000-$500,000 per year, with full medical and retirement benefits, and be done with it.

I just don't understand why he's waiting so long to get this "issue" resolved.

/sarcasm
