I don't think Kerry admits he is a classical guitarist. He only admits to Rock & Roll. I don't think he wants to hurt his image.

I dunno 'bout that. It appears his left thumb is not correctly positioned on the back of the neck, rather it appears to be way over the top of the neck. Aaron Shearer never taught it that way.
The blues guys do, so they can fret the top strings with that thumb. Tres gauche to a classical player.

You're right, though, his hand position (both) and the way he holds the guitar are clearly classical. Myself, I play folk and bluegrass, but I started out in classical and it's obvious from my LH wrist position.
