Bush: 'Who the Heck Wants to Be Wartime President?'
CNSNEWS.com ^ | 8/06/04 | Susan Jones

(CNSNews.com) - In a speech to minority journalists in Washington on Friday, President Bush said he'd rather not be a "war president."

"This is a dangerous time," Bush told the Unity convention. "I wish it wasn't this way. I wish I wasn't the war president. Who in heck wants to be a war president? I don't. But this is what came our way. And this is our duty -- to protect our people. And I'll continue to do that to the best of my ability."

President Bush also told the journalists the threats that America faces are real -- and he has no choice but to let Americans know what's going on.

"When we find out intelligence that is real that threatens people, I believe we have an obligation as government to share that with people. And imagine what would happen if we didn't share that information with people in those buildings -- and something were to happen -- then what would you write? Then what would you say?"

Bush repeated that he has a "solemn duty" to follow every lead and share information. That's what his administration has done and what it will continue to do, he said.

Didn't Bill Clinton say he wished the attack would have happened on his watch so he could lead us to war?

I think it was chrissy matthews who said that, same difference.

It should have been. I forgot that quote from Kerry about him not being able to do anything for 40 minutes or whatever that was he said. Anything the guy says is such BS I pretty much ignore it.

I don't get the criticism regarding Bush and his reading to school children. Bush knew he had competent people to take of the initial things that had to be done...he also felt that he did not want to upset or unduly alarm the children he was with.

It was an act of desperation on Kerry's part to bring out what Bush did or supposedly should have done!

"Well, we know one thing FOR SURE!! He sat for 40 minutes and watched the Pentagon get hit."

First, he did not watch the Pentagon get hit. Only people who were in the area could have done that as it was not filmed. By making one absurd statement, you undermine the credibility of others.

Second, what would you have suggested he do? What could he have done in the time immediately after he first heard of the situation that other people weren't already doing?

Third, merely because a person happens to be sitting does not mean they can not do anything. Time needs to be taken to think about the situation and make decisions, for one thing, and sitting is as good a position in which to do this as any.

Sacajawean was talking about Kerry sitting for 40 minutes. Are you talking about Kerry or Bush?

I won't comment except to say that I want a president that WANTS to be a war president.

So, are you saying that you want a President who is anxious to go to war? For whatever reasons? Just so he can be a war president? Sounds like bill clinton.

I want a president who will defend this country when it's called for (say like 9/11), not one who wants to create a "legacy". I want a president who will fight a war we are in with the intent to win, like President Bush. I want a president who puts the welfare of this country first, regardless of poll numbers and a media who hounds him 24/7. Like President Bush.

I believe President Bush is an excellent war president, even though he would rather see he US at peace. Which is what he meant in the first place.

He is talking about sKerry's reaction with other dem leaders on the Hill. They probably only started to run when they realized the Pentagon was hit.

They were probably watching television moniters. Also, Kerry said that the collective group could not think. If you are not thinking and sitting, then you are more in a state of shock than action.

I agree. President Bush has been a good wartime President but he wishes that this had never started in the first place. He is a President who wants peace but had to go to war, the last thing he wanted. Kerry would have just said, "Let's negotiate!" After negotiating in which the terrorists would have demanded that we surrender and become Muslims, he would have acquiesced. GAG

The above website explains what Kerry did between the time the 2nd plane hit the 2nd WTC and the plane that hit the Pentagon.
