'The right thing to do' Family says Mark Hacking is willing to help investigators even if his life is at stake By Matt Canham and Matthew D. LaPlante The Salt Lake Tribune Douglas Hacking, shown here during a news conference in Salt Lake City on July 25, said Thursday that his son, Mark, wants to help the investigation. He told his family he killed his wife. Now his family says Mark Hacking is ready to accept the consequences. In a telephone conversation from jail Wednesday night, Hacking reportedly talked to his father about his willingness to help investigators, despite its possible effect on his upcoming court case. "He is determined to do what is right," Douglas Hacking told The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday. "He started the process when he let the word out to where Lori was and he is determined to continue to do what is right - even if it costs him his life."

Good Morning everyone! I don't know....to me this case just gets freakier and freakier. I think that Mark thinks that maybe someone will sympathize with him if he "spills" his guts.
Yeah, right.
Which one?
Ahhhh....you are right. Mr multitude.
That is what I think. He just strings everyone along for thier sympathy.
Yup. What's the deal with the alias and the post box he rented on the sly, have you heard?
"He is determined to do what is right - even if it costs him his life."
Two comments.
1) It should cost him his life in any case.
2) It's a little late for his wife and unborn child for him to "be determined to do what is right"...he should have had those sentiments some time ago.
But, nonetheless, I do hope he cooperates and that the entire terrible situation finds some closure and that her family finds some measure of peace.
You know, I have not heard one this about this box he supposedly rented. Does anyone know where that story came from anyway??
Given the facts in this case I think this is all he has to save his neck. "The right thing to do", in Mark's mind, is saving his life.
They forgot to tell the attorney....

I do agree with you. In my opinion I think his parents are being just a tad to "understanding".
I heard the alias was only used for the hospital visit.
I'll never understand bail. Or parole.
The scumbag confesses to killing the poor girl
but if he was filthy rich he could spring himself?
Agreed. I think since he has confessed he should not be allowed to leave jail at all. Lori has yet to leave the dump.
That could be. But you mustn't overlook the possibility that sometimes people do things that they're ashamed of, and want to atone for them. We hear a lot about sociopaths and sexual sadists these days, and they're definitely one of a number of "types" of individuals who are likely to commit murder. Not every murderer, however, falls into such a category. People will commit murder for the same reason they'll put a hundred dollar bet on a sporting event; weighing the benefits of winning against the costs of losing.
Well If I had the guts to kill someone....I think that I would be ashamed of that...but I would never expect someone to give me atonement!!!!
If I was extracting his confession, you would sympathize with him.
I don't think anyone gives you atonement. That's something you seek for yourself. The first part of it is accepting responsibility and consequences.
If you've never read Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment," you ought to pick up a copy and have a go at it. A great novel, dealing with a theme that can't be stated simply in a bald narration.
He has the remorse and guilt thing going on
