Bump
I saw one get brutalized by Susan Estritch on Hannity & Colmes this eve. Rotten.
I's like to know:
1. Of the actual group of people who actually served on Kerry's swiftboat, how many support him now and are on the campaign trail with him (at the DNC, whatever). The way it sounded was that only one broke ranks, but I didn't think that was true.
2. These Swiftboat Veterans For Truth guys need to be squeaky clean - I hope they are.
Don't put many eggs in this basket, folks.
Why? 250 Swiftboat vets don't have the right to express their opinion? I smell a fraud! And it isn't the Swiftees.
Considering I didn't remotely suggest that, I have no idea what you are talking about.
That's the kind of defensive posture that clouds judgment.
All I am saying is that their story has to add up and play well - if 250 guys who never served with Kerry say one thing, and indeed most of the ones who actually served on his boat with him say another, in the court of public opinion, the fewer will most likely be given more weight.
Being on the DNC's or RNC's payroll has nothing to do with it. Don't obfuscate the issue - they better have a legit story to tell if they are going to make this work.
I hope they do.
What I am saying has nothing to do with fraud. What is your problem?
They have a right to say what they want, but if they want to carry the day they will have to make sure all their dots add up and tell a more compelling story than the Vets on Kerry's side.
Honestly it is too early to tell if it will.
So yes, don't put ANY eggs in this basket until that's clear.
Hannity warned them at the beginning that it was going to be a short segment. She was just running his time out. In the end it's a good thing. It makes the Dems look like they don't want the real story to come out. If it's all lies, then they never had a problem with that before. The Dems had orgasmicaly wrapped themselves in Michael Moore's lies and screamed for seconds.
Yea, I was just a little down on it, that's all. These guys haven't been coached at all it seems and a pro like Estritch bullied the poor fella easily.
In fact, it probably wasn't as bad as I thought it was - I am a tough critic and hate it whenever people on our side (in this case, those critical of Kerry) come off looking defensive or evasive.
Wait and see on this one. I hope for the best.
Some of these Swift Boat Vets were traveling in other boats on the same missions as Kerry. They were in eye-sight of the man, on the same river, traveling in formation. That is like saying a wingman "never served" with a pilot because he was in a different plane. Please tell me this is not the extent of your logic.
No, not at all.
The 'never served' is shorthand for 'never served on the same boat as him, under his command.'
Regardless of the facts, and the logic, if it is characterized in the media as the dozen who bled, sweat, and cried with Kerry, vs the 240 who were on another boat, there is almost no doubnt that the dirty dozen will win that in the court of public opinion.
The facts will have almost nothing to do with it - if this is indeed the way it's played, those critical of Kerry are at a disadvantage.
Don;t be so defensive, either - as I said, I hate it when our side gets defensive. It never convinces anyone. It's not that what I saw on tv tonight was unimpressive. It was DAMN unimpressive, and I hope the SBV for T have better.
I was not being defensive, I was questioning your hyperbole. I continue to do so. What I saw tonight were honorable men talking about an unhonorable one. Buying into the DNC talking points and regurgitating them is "damn unimpressive" as well.
No hyperbole. I am not buying into anything or out of anything (yet).
I want to know more about these guys before I back them, which is entirely fair. I need that info to evaluate if their story will be seen as more compelling to people.
It's not hyperbole to project how this will play. It's smart and savvy.
Estritch kicked the honorable man's rear end, as most clear thinking folks plainly saw. I don;t doubt that it was an honorable man talking about a dishonrable one, its just that the honrable man came off as evasive and slow-witted. Poor prep. Poor production. They need to be better to win this debate in the minds of the people.
If tonight is an indicator, the dirty dozen on Kerry's side will come off as more credible than these 250.
That isn't a DNC talking point. Your defensiveness is clouding your judgment. Ask yourself how this is going to play out, not who is 'right' or 'wrong.' These Vets are not ready for prime time and that was clear tonight.
All the imagination in the world won't change that.
The truth will prevail as the records are released.
Plus there is the meeting when the VVAW discussed murdering 9 US Senators that Mr. Kerry was in that will be the death nail.
I agree with the first part, but not the 2nd.
That assassination meeting is old news with no legs at all.
