Kerry touts $20 billion clean-energy plan

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry wants to spend $20 billion over a decade developing clean-burning fuels and environmental technology, part of an effort to reduce American dependence on foreign oil.

President Bush, meanwhile, pressed for changes in labor laws so that workers can choose time off instead of overtime pay, a notion that has met stiff resistance in the Republican-controlled Congress.

A portion of the development fund that Kerry is proposing, which campaign aides said would be unveiled Friday, would be financed by trimming the government’s own utility bills. Kerry envisions switching to fuel-efficient cars and trucks, winterizing federal buildings and installing lights that turn themselves off at night.

The remainder would be paid for by reinstating a tax on corporate polluters that had financed cleanups at some of the nation’s worst environmentally damaged sites, known as Superfund sites.

Beautiful! As I always, I'm almost tempted to go for it - BUT the light bulb goes on in my head. How does John F*ckin' plan to pay for all this -- 20 billion here and there and pretty soon you're talkin' real money.

I had that at a prior job - it was darn nice. Every hour OT got you 1.5 hours of what they called "comp time" and you could bank it, and use it as vacation time. I miss that...

After today's events, the only energy plan he has to worry about is making sure the motor on TerAYza's yacht has enough gasoline.

I thought we sent Al Gore packing? Is this a John Edwards channeling resurection?

He's gonna fund this 20 Billion Dollar idea by installing timers??

Carter has advised him to just turn down the heat and wear a sweater.

If Lurch keeps this up, he'll be in Bush-level spending territory soon. Of course, "limited government" George just squandered a trillion on "free" pills to buy votes from Greedy Geezers, so JF'nK is going to have to work a bit harder to keep up.

He could power the nation with all the vacuous hot air he's been emitting from his mouth (or would that qualify as air pollution?).

Kerry must be patterning this "energy" plan on Carter's .. where Carter's plan was to tell everybody to turn down the A/C and put a sweater on.

Hmmmm? I guess you're right - it had to be the heater .. I think I said A/C because most units are a combination of both heat and cooling. I probably should have said "turn down the thermostat" instead of A/C.

The fund would promote energy sources like natural gas, coal, nuclear and renewable energy generated from corn, soybeans and other crops, the campaign said.

Kerry is promoting natural gas, coal and nuclear energy?

Crap. That's means I have to waste my time reading his proposal to figure out where he's lying to us.
