If you read posts by certain members here, Kerry has already won the election and didn't need a bounce from his convention.

Now lets see how long before one of the (unnamed) pessimists replies...

Kerry's speech was style over substance.

Kerry has about as much style, substance, and charisma as a wet cardboard box.

The "no bounce" was because his speech didn't persuade or dissuade anyone. All style, no substance.

The Democrats hung themselves with what little rope the Bush/Cheney team gave them when the Bush/Cheney team came with their charts and graphs before the DNC convention even started showing a historical fact that candidates coming out of their convention enjoy 15% bounces.

In other words, the Bush/Cheney team gave Kerry high expectations of a bounce, and Kerry didn't deliver.

But, there's another school of thought. The Democrats became overly excited to the point of cockiness after the GOP came out with their charts and graphs and historical convention polling data. Asked for comment, Terry McAulliffe, the chairman of the DNC went so far as to say the Democrats had the election "locked up".
