Now here's what really happened: I was in my room reading a book (Thin Red Line) when the mortars started coming down. Usually when we get mortared it'll only one, maybe two mortars. But this mortar attack went on for almost 20 minutes. Each one impacting the FOB every couple minutes. Something was up. My roommate ripped open the door and yelled "Get your guys, Go to the motor pool! The whole BATTALION is rolling out!" Holy s**t, the whole Battalion? This must be big. So I ran over and woke my guys up, yelled, "Get your f**kin s**t on and head down to the motor pool! Time: Now!"

WOW.
Thanks for posting this.
Ping to the usual suspects, s'il vous plait. Any thoughts on what Lonnie Shoultz would have to say?
I've never posted an article here before and of course gave the link with the comments after this particular entry of his.
This linky will take you to the whole blog. He writes daily.

Pretty intense
Got 2 vids one is a convoy being ambushed and flooring it. Taken from a cam inside one of the Suburbans. 3.5 megs
The other is I guess an Iraqi News camera they goto a guy on the street with an RPG on his shoulder, until some 30 cals with tracers takes him out. This is pretty graphic and close up. 2.4 megs
Yea, I have that second one. I play it whenever I hear bad news. Get's me riled right back up. That guy wasn't too bright was he? I know that sounds twisted.

I know there are a lot of Styker detractors in the world, but this guy loves them and writes at length about how tough they are a few entries down.
Yes thank you for the post, very enlightening.
I'm exNavy and the engagement reminded me of a river battle.
Curious about the stryker. Does it only have a single M2?
Can the guys below have gunports that they can shoot through like an armored car has? A single M2 is not a lot of firepower. A twin 50 or a .30 cal minigun would seem better. Even add some rockets or even hellfire missles.
On riverboats we put a weapon everywhere we could. We also reinforced the armor by putting rebar around the boats to detonate B40s before they hit the hull.
I just worry about good men in mad machines.
This s**t happened in Mosul?
I thought Mosul was in the Kurdish area where it was pretty peaceful.
Damn.
I just found this blog today. Gritty and real.
Didn't jam. Serviced targets on the move. It works.
I don't know too much about them other that they come with a number of configurations/weapons. That link from AmericanMade1776 is a good one for info on them.
A friend of mine linked me with CB just a few days ago. Once you start reading this, you can't stop. The whole telling is like one run-on sentence. They did real good, our boys. Real good.
Keep on praying . . .
Hmmm, can't be ...doesn't match with what I read on the Internet.
BTW, an historical perspective may be in order: The M-4 Sherman was clearly inferior to the German Tiger and Panther, and probably the MkIV as well, but American soldiers figured out how to use what they had to best advantage - moral of the story - training, leadership, and initiative usually trumps technology.
HOLY COW - Where do we get these guys?!
