Brit Hume was a huge disappointment. Appears his all-stars are pulling back from the story.
This is a real hot potato for anyone in the "establishment" to handle. It almost works best if it's not endorsed by the mainstream. As long as the Dem's intimidation tactics don't succeed, and this ad stays on the air, then I think all is well. People will see it and will be affected by it.
The only exception to this would be if the Republicans come out and blast the ad as false. But they have been quite careful NOT to do that; rather, they simply repeat the mantra that "we have never questioned Kerry's military service and we won't start now."
I suspect that in the future, this will take a place alongside the Willie Horton myth as a false example of how low Pubs will go. But that myth hasn't really hurt us, IMO.
I would also add this. This advertisement has the potential to cause real problems for Bush. First, it motivates the Dems to bring up Bush's Vietnam service. Yes, we all know it's a crap issue, but it may regain political legs and be a thorn in Bush's side. And if that's the case, then it may dampen the negative impact of the ad, and make it difficult for Bush to make the case that Kerry's Senate record proves he's unfit for duty.
Let's face it, as Kerry's Dem convention speech made clear, Kerry would love nothing more than to keep the focus off his Senate record.
They, too, are being threatened by 3 Democrats in Washington for their so called right wing bias. Three Democrats held a meeting about it. It was in another thread. They're attempting to censor FOX.
The Democrats, like they did using political correctness in the '90's, are attempting to silence all through fascist litigation, from any descent against any Democrat.
The most powerful left wing weapon is silencing the American people. If people are forced into silence, only the democrat side gets heard. There's even a film out now, no joke, like Fahrenheit 9/11 showing the bias at FOX. They're under fascist attack just like the vets.
