Run Keyes. Whoever is put up against Obama at this point basically has no chance so it might as well be a real Republican. If nothing else he can make some points during the campaign.
Keyes is too conservative for IL; these people wouldn't know constitutional principles if it danced naked in front of them at a strip bar.
As a former Chicagoland resident I can say, without fear of contradiction, that the Republican Party in IL is a useless embarrassment.
There's gotta be some conservatives in Illinois, I mean Illinois is a huge fricking state. Is the GOP there that inept? Surely they can find someone outside of the metro Chicago area, someone in Champaign, Peroria, Rockford maybe?...hell what about Superman in Metropolis way at the bottom of the state?
Too bad John Kass is excerpted. He's an excellent writer and I'm not giving the Tribune my personal info.
Hillary Clinton in NY pretty much destroyed the concept of attacking a candidate as a carpetbagger. I think at a bare minumum Keyes will make Obabama earn it, and he may have a small chance of an upset.
I've been an election watcher for over 20 years. And in all that time, this is the strangest and craziest Senate race I've ever seen. If someone had written a novel or screenplay about this race, it would be rejected as unbelieveable. But the unbelieveable has become reality. Can anyone name any other U.S. Senate race as off-the-wall as this one?
And maybe even Republican, though let's not get ENTIRELY silly here!
