He says it's dishonest -- what content of the ad does he actually dispute?

Someone needs to inform McCain that there's nothing "cheap" about the truth...
And the only "cheap stunt" was Kerry appearing before the Senate committee in 1971 and lying about the "mass atrocities" ...
McCain needs to get on the right side of this issue!
Those pictures and lies of Kerry were used by the Vietnamese communists and helped in their propaganda! Period!
There were no "mass atrocities" and Kerry lied and betrayed those who fought in Viet Nam! And that's the bottom line!

McCain said that's all in the past to him, but he's speaking out against the anti-Kerry ad because he believes it's bad for the political system. ''It reopens all the old wounds of the Vietnam War, which I spent the last 35 years trying to heal,'' he said. ''I deplore this kind of politics. I think the ad is dishonest and dishonorable. As it is, none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded. Many of his crew have testified to his courage under fire. I think John Kerry served honorably in Vietnam. I think George Bush served honorably in the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.''
This was expected. McCain is now going to be the Dems chief defender of Kerry. If McCain (and the Dems) did not want to reopen old wounds with Vietnam, Kerry was the wrong candidate. First, it was the Dems and Kerry that raised the issue again of Bush's National Guard record and touted Kerry's war record. Kerry mentions Vietnam at every stop in the campaign. Secondly, Kerry's antiwar activities and associations helped fuel the anti Vietnam veteran sentiment.
Kerry has made Vietnam the centerpiece of his campaign. He can't have it both ways and neither can McCain. The Swift Boat vets have every right to express their opinions, especially when Kerry trots out his Band of Brothers as political props.
McCain is mouthing the Dem talking points when he says that "none of these individuals served on the boat (Kerry) commanded." Technically true, but it ignores the reality that they were serving together within yards of one another. Kerry was not commanding a destroyer or aircraft carrier. He was operating a small boat with a crew of 6 including himself. The boats operated together with other boats, not independently. As I said on another thread, it is like the quarterback saying he did not serve with the middle linebacker. They may be on different units, but they are on the same team.

I've been listening to Lucianne Goldberg (sp?), who is filling in for Laura Ingraham...most of the last hour has been focused on the Swift Vets ad...though I didn't hear about McRINO's comments until now.
The thought I had, while exercising prior to work, is that in 2000, to my recollection, George W. Bush did not make his service in the Texas Air National Guard the cornerstone of his campaign for the Presidency. John Kerry IS making his Vietnam service the cornerstone for his campaign.
If Kerry is going to do that, then questions about his service and record are fair game.
Put aside, for the moment, the fact that he threw his medals/ribbons over the White House fence (then lied about it later, and accused the WH of trying to smear him).
Put aside that he is trying to become President based on something that he denigrated (as well as the people who served there) almost as soon as he got back from Vietnam.
None of this is even an issue, if Kerry doesn't MAKE it an issue. And really, what in the world else does Kerry REALLY have to run on? His ultra-liberal 19 years in the Senate?
By the way, as someone posted, I never heard McRINO denounce the efforts to denigrate the service of President Bush, either in the 2000 campaign or any time since.
By the way (part 2), did not the Breck Girl say on the stump, or at the "reinvention convention" (both are boring), "If you want to get to know John Kerry, spend 3 minutes with those who served with them"...
And now that those who DID serve with him, are speaking out against him, McRINO blames it on the White House? That's like a bully who picks a fight, and then runs away...and you know that the majority of the media is not going to help.
Memo to Kerry/Edwards/McRINO: Crap, or get off of the pot.
McCain should go and talk to the Swiftvets himself.

Ya know, I had a feeling this would happen, but I feel this is just posturing being done to publicly condemn the ads but secretly endorse their ideas. I see the Bush administration doing the same thing, though I hope he doesn't.
